Summary

Sailing is an international sport that offers many rewards. Imagine white sails billowing against a clear sky, the brisk feel of the breeze on your face, and the gentle motions of the boat as it cleanly slices through the water. While sailing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, it also requires you to be an active participant more than almost any other type of boating.

When you learn how to sail, you will not only become intimately familiar with all aspects of your boat, but also how your boat relates to its environment in terms of everything from the wind to the weather. Sailing can be terrific exercise that is both invigorating and relaxing.

Excellent for complete beginner

Very helpful as I’m just starting to learn to sail and needed a clear and basic explanation of the main points.

Difficult to grasp in Audio format

I am not sure if I would have preferred this book had I read it but it was very dry and extremely hard to follow. The narrator made the book even dryer than it was and did not provide the kinds of pauses and intonations that might have made the instructional aspect easier to follow / grasp.

Short Easy Read for Beginner, Spouse, Kids or Crew

This book is what I expected--a very brief overview of sailing terms, how sails work, and what to bring on a day sailing trip. It's easy to get through in a afternoon, and short enough to read or listen to more than once as a review. My husband has been sailing for many years, and I am new to it. I found it very useful to listen to this book so I knew some basic terminology and felt less embarrassed as I began sailing. It is worded very plainly, so I imagine anyone, including kids, could understand it, especially if they have an experienced sailor who could help illustrate the concepts for them. If you have sailed for any time at all, this may be a bit too basic for you. but for beginners, I would certainly recommend it.

great little review!

A
little light on some important details but a great brush up! An instruction on judging where the wind is coming from would be helpful for beginners since that is the basis for all that follows.

Quick

More on weather and navigation is a need. The book is encouraging and does not make it aound difficult.

extremely basic for even beginners

I downloaded this book when I was first learning how to sail last year, it's extremely short and I feel that it is probably better to just simply go to YouTube and watch videos for free for the same amount of time.

Very basic.

Though well laid out, this book was VERY basic. Also, the description of gybing seemed incorrect.
