The writer and broadcaster Paul Heiney set sail from the east coast of England bound for Iceland, propelled by a desire to breathe the cool, clear air of the high latitudes, and to follow in the wake of generations of sailors who have made this often treacherous journey since the 13th century. In almost every harbour he tripped over maritime history and anecdote, and came face to face with his own past as he sailed north along his childhood coastline of east Yorkshire towards the Arctic Circle. But there was one major thing missing from this voyage - the sight of puffins.

'Fair Winds & Following Seas', For Jim ⛵
A very interesting and engaging 'sail-o-biography' by James G Whitelaw. The author has written about the events that took place in his life, how he always wanted to sail, and the tough situations he has to go through to accomplish his dreams, in an engrossing read. Add to that the excellent narration of Calum Bannerman and it seems we are there in the Scottish Lochs sailing with Jim.
What I like about the book is:
- How the author is very cautious while sailing. He always respects the sea. He is never reckless. These are the qualities of a good sailor.
- Though, when he decides on doing something, he accomplishes what he wants. He is head strong. He shows bravery and determination.
- There is never a dull moment and you gain a lot of knowledge about sailing in the North Sea around the northern tip of Scotland and in its numerous Lochs.
I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy the excitement of high seas adventures.

Inspirational story of achieving one's dream
Inspirational story about a man's sailing dream came true when he bought his own yacht. In this book, James shared his story of how he fell in love with sailing as a boy, when he finally bought his yacht decades later, and the various sailing trip he went on. I really enjoy hearing about Jim's stories and I could feel his passion for sailing through the story and appreciate his openness and genuineness to allow the listeners into the glimpse of personal life.

Inspirational and motivating
This is a book that will not just be of interest to the sailing community. It tells the story of one man who's been bitten by the boat and yachting bug.
A glimpse into Jim Whitelaw's life is reflected in this book. His dreams, aspirations, disappointments and achievements are all laid out for all to see. This is a wonderful story that has the potential to connect with the reader through its honesty and sincerity as well as its humour. His Scottish accent just adds to needing to hear more.
Sail with Jim was totally enjoyable from beginning to end. With respect to the author, this book makes me believe in myself more than ever before because it teaches that anything can happen when you set your mind on something- no matter how big or small your dream it may be! This is a must read for everyone.
