About this listen

A tale of dark secrets, deep love, and dangerous magic!

Since childhood, Sabriel has lived outside the walls of the Old Kingdom, away from the random power of Free Magic, and away from the Dead who refuse to stay dead. But now her father, the Charter-Mage Abhorsen, is missing, and to find him Sabriel must cross back into that world. With Mogget, whose feline form hides a powerful, perhaps malevolent spirit, and Touchstone, a young Charter Mage, Sabriel travels deep into the Old Kingdom. There she confronts an evil that threatens much more than her life--and comes face-to-face with her own hidden destiny.©1995 Garth Nix; (P)2002 Random House, Inc., Listening Library, An Imprint Of The Random House Audio Publishing Group

This book is not as famous as it deserves. Excellent writing, totally original concepts, gripping story line and characters that you can believe in. A fantasy classic! The reading is also one of the best I've heard.

Fantastic Book, Fantastic Reading

The only reason we took one star away in performance was because there were times when we had trouble distinguishing between Sabriel and the narrator. Otherwise, this story is just as good read in private as when performed out loud.

Very Good

One of the best books I have ever had! Loved it! Pure magic! I can't wait to read more about the Old Kingdom!

Long live the Charter!

This is the full version of the book and I very much enjoyed it. Tim Curry has a pleasant reading voice and I think as an actor he has the ability to bring the book to life. I will say I had never pronounced Sabriel that way but that might just be the Yorkshire in me. I can't wait to listen to the next one!

Just as good as I remember

Have loved this trilogy since the first book and have re-read many times since. Sabriel is an engaging heroine, the magic systems and lore are very interesting and the plot is exciting and well paced. Tim Curry gives an animated performance that really brings the book to life. This is some of the best YA/fantasy I’ve encountered.

Great book well read
