About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Dawn. 19th July 1972. A force of nearly 300 heavily armed, well-trained guerrillas launches a surprise attack on the small fishing village of Mirbat. All that stands in their way is a troop of just nine SAS, aided only by an elite band of fighter pilots overhead.

Two years earlier, a Communist rebellion had threatened the Arabian Peninsula, in the strategically critical Sultanate of Oman. Following a covert intelligence mission, 22 SAS deployed their largest ever assault force against the rebels.

But this was to be a bitter and hard-fought campaign culminating the Battle of Mirbat, which would become a defining moment for the regiment. Their heroism that day would remain part of the SAS legend for ever.

Critic reviews

"As vivid and compelling as the best adventure thriller, and a fitting tribute to a small band of men who became heroes." (Andy McNab)

"Gripping, revealing and extraordinarily well-researched, this is a riveting new account of a little known but crucial war." (Sir Ranulph Fiennes)

A fascinating account of heroism in military action about which little is ever said, taught, or acknowledged.

Thoroughly gripping

Brilliant narration BUT the GPMG belt fed 7.62mm machine gun is pronounced Jimpy not Gimpy! 😡

Great listen!

Ordinary people from ordinary backgrounds achieving the impossible against overwhelming odds. A great story of determination, but sadly proving the fact; "Politocians start wars, they don't fight them".

Amazing Feats Of Bravery

Another great account of a truly astonishing feat, as with Vulcan 607 and Phoenix Sqn. The level of research and detail is phenomenal and it is superbly put together into a gripping account. On top of this, the narration was truly first class.

Amazing story, expertly told.

Having finished Mosquito i already enjoyed the way Roland White's writers researched and constructed the book creating a fascinating and information packed riveting read/listen with the sort of attention to detail that makes the difference. In my case its audiobooks and the voice of Roy McMillian is so well suited to this style, having listened to the 'Sapper' series Roy brings this (as he does with Mosquito) to life. Storm Front is packed with the background and character's detail that is often missed yet vital and what makes thier books so good. Two of my favourite historical military books I've read/heard and will be looking out the others. Storm Front a brilliantly written account of this period that's hard to out down. try the sample as a taster, it won't disappoint. my review a bit of a brain dump, the book superbly constructed, edited and voiced. thoroughly reccomend.

Brilliant!
