Story
The experience of going through a story allows us to escape our lives for a moment, and so this is a perfect way to start learning a language. Going through a story activates your brain and imagination, thus increasing the chance to learn easily and not quit. Often, people start learning a new language only to give up after a couple of weeks. This is not due to the complexity of the language but because they become disheartened as the method they are using does not give the right motivation.

Summary
Do you know what the hardest thing for a Russian learner is? Finding proper reading material that they can handle...which is precisely the reason we’ve created this audiobook!
Teachers love giving out tough, expert-level literature to their students, books that present many new problems to the reader and force them to search for words in a dictionary every five minutes - it’s not entertaining, useful, or motivating for the student at all, and many soon give up on learning!
In this audiobook, we have compiled 20 easily understandable, compelling, and fun stories that will allow you to expand your vocabulary and give you the tools to improve your grasp of the wonderful Russian tongue.
How Russian Short Stories for Beginners works:
- Each story is interesting and entertaining with realistic dialogues and day-to-day situations.
- The summaries follow a synopsis in Russian and in English of what you just heard, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about.
- At the end of those summaries, you’ll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson, as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance!
- Finally, you’ll be provided with a set of tricky questions in Russian, providing you with the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answer to any - we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating!
We want you to feel comfortable while learning the tongue; after all, no language should be a barrier for you to travel around the world and expand your social circles!
So look no further! Pick up your copy of Russian Short Stories for Beginners and level up your Russian right now!

Good stories plus audio
This is the audio version of Russian short stories for beginners. The audio version is the same as the print or kindle version but with audio, obviously. And a pdf of the text is included. The stories are short but challenging and every phrase is covered in the explanatory notes after the text. With Russian, there is often a difference between the spelling and pronunciation and so the audio is really useful. By the time you get through the stories, the differences between speech and writing will have been internalised, which will help a lot with speech and writing. Really well thought out and executed.

Russian Stories - interesting and Good study mater
The audio book comes with an accompanying PDF. You can read the PDF as the audio is playing to hear the pronunciation of each word, then a summary of the story in both Russian and English is provided, with a few questions about the story to test your understanding. At the end of each story there is also a break down of key words used in the story and their translation, i used these translations along with my ANKI app to review the words i had learned throughout. With over 7 and a half hours, it keeps you very busy and helped me to expand my vocabulary beyond learning individual words. Well worth a listen!

A good mix of stories
As a beginner to learning Russian I was looking for stories that would push my vocabulary more than just reading children's books. This audiobook will push most beginners to learn new vocabulary. The good thing is that there is a PDF that you can read along with the audio.
There is a good mixture of stories covering many aspects of life experiences and the stories are narrated clearly, although a little fast if you're a beginner. You can slow it down though which helped me. The English parts are also clearly narrated by an exceptionally posh narrator, but it works well. I would recommend this book to all beginners who have some experience with Russian already.

Good learning material
A wonderful resource of new vocabulary presented in an interesting and useful way. The vocabulary lists include small snippets and phrases as well as just individual words, and are translated in the form they are encountered in the story, not in their sterile dictionary form, making them far more memorable.
I would definitely not put this book in the beginner category however. I would recommend a good basic Russian course to have been taken first. The text provides no grammar explaination which is perfectly understandable for a vocabulary builder aimed at a student with a reasonable prior acquaintance with Russian grammar, but would soon become very confusing for a total beginner.
The narration feels slighlty strange to my ear. The diction in places sounds plain weird and the pronunciation of several English words is just plain wrong (find the part with the word 'pneumonia').
On a final note, the ablative case is mentioned over and over again. Apart from the irritatingly hilarious pronunciation of the word 'ablative', the ablative case doesn't even exist in Russian, or English for that matter, so why is it here?
The Russian pronunciation is excellent.
If you can overlook or indeed overhear the slightly bizarre presentation this is still a really good resource for upper-beginner level learners.

Game changing!
So after reading the printed edition of the book, I decided to give a go to the audiobook here in Audible and I have to say it is game changing!
The thing is, when learning a foreign language the pronunciation can be a bit tricky - this is where this audiobook, along the pdf also available here, will speed your learning to ultra sonic levels.
Definitely I’m trying with other titles!

Helped with vocabulary, reading & listening skills
As someone who was completely new to Russian, with absolutely zero Russian vocabulary when I first discovered this book, I found it to be quite a challenge at first. However, Russian Short Stories for Beginners is a good vocabulary builder and a worthy addition to a Russian-learning toolkit.
I originally purchased the physical book but the audiobook helped me a lot. I like that it comes with a transcript too, so if I don’t have my book with me I can still follow along. When learning languages, I seem to struggle the most with listening and associating sounds with the words I'm looking at, but these stories are simple enough that I can read along easily and match what I'm hearing to what I'm seeing. It's a fun way to improve my confidence with both reading and listening. And, as a personal anecdote: I befriended a native Russian speaker who is learning English and knows little more English than I do Russian, and this book has helped me converse a little bit with him already.
Content-wise, considering these are beginner-level short stories, I thought they were interesting enough and sometimes found myself wishing they were longer (but then they wouldn't be short stories, I suppose).

Excellent Tool to Grow Russian Vocabulary
I learned Russian mostly by reading about 35 years ago. I gave up after several years because I did not have opportunities to practice with nor listen to native Russian speakers. I am now getting back to learn Russian again but still do not have confidence in listening skill. This audio books arrives just in time. Now I do not need to memorize accent marks to guess correct pronunciation of words; I just listen to narrator's voice while reading stories along. The vocabulary is proverbial and stories are fun to read. It is an excellent tool to grow and retain vocabulary.

Awesome book to learn Russian
If you already know a little bit of Russian, this book is gold. The stories are interesting, the vocabulary is well thought-out to help you learn, important words are highlighted. The narrator speaks perfectly in English and in Russian (is it really the same guy??). There is a summary of each chapter in Russian and in English. And vocabulary revision. All in audio and in text (in the accompanying PDF).
In short, an awesome resource for Russian learners.

- read a summary with translations
- read important vocab with translations
Even as an advanced speaker, there were new words and grammar principles I was able to learn going through this book.

Great for Keeping My Russian Sharp
I studied Russian while in school, and now that I've graduated it's been difficult to keep at it. This audio book and pdf are great for refreshing my Russian! In school, I reach advanced low, so I understand most of the stories the first time through. But there is plenty of useful vocab that is new to me. The vocab is very good and practical. Each story uses different everyday phrases that are perfect for non-textbook Russian.
This resource would be especially great for intermediate learners who have a basic understanding of Russian grammar and vocab. The narrator is very clear and easy to understand, which is great for dipping into Russian. The pdf eliminates frustration from just listening, but the quality of the recording is good so it isn't totally necessary for people who have been studying for a little while. Overall, I am very happy with it, and I will continue to return to the stories to increase my vocab.

A game-changer for language learning
I have multiple language learning books on my Kindle, but I always thought Audible’s price was a bit high. Recently, a friend of mine convinced me to try it. Being able to listen to the audio while reading has been a game-changer and well worth the price of the membership. Russian Short Stories for Beginners has beautifully clear audio and a PDF. Be aware that this book isn’t for complete beginners, but it is very approachable for beginners with a solid grasp of the basics.

Got me back into Russian
I love this book. It did what I couldn't do on my own; it got me back into studying Russian after a long dry spell.
I'm not sure that I would classify these stories as beginner. They seemed more like Beginner Intermediate to me.
There a ways to modify the level of the book. If you're not getting enough of the story, listen to the vocab section first, or read the vocabulary section in the free PDF for the story you want to listen to.
While only 7.5 hours long. This book can be mined for a long time to come.
