Summary

From USA Today bestselling author HJ Bellus comes an unexpected and gut-wrenching tale that will have your heart beating with anticipation.

Our shadows are always there.

They entertain us when we're little, just like best friends.

As we grow older, they grow with us. Even through the darkness they stay, never leaving our side.

They watch.

They listen.

They know all our secrets. Endure our pain. Their silence remains while only rumors drift in the wind.

Soon our shadows turn from friend to foe. They become the monster starring in our nightmares, a temptress of hell reminding us what it feels like to burn.

Shadows are the demons that tear our souls apart. They never let go, and they never allow us to forget.

Everyone has a shadow.

I just buried mine.

Very well done

The writing is superb, and I admire all the characters. I gave it 4 stars because the book did not mature as I thought it would. I was really hoping the romance would blossom into physical intimacy, but it did not, at least not from a descriptive perspective. I expected this theme based on the cover chosen, because the book’s description is vague. Additionally, I think it is important for this storyline to address and delve into the struggles and triumphs of intimacy. I would recommend for those interested in stories about revenge and overcoming childhood abuse generally, but not for those looking for a story about navigating intimacy after enduring such horrific abuse. The narration was outstanding.

hits hard

This book hits you in the feels. From rage to joy and every emotion in between. The small town gossip train is a nasty beast along with the secrets it carries. The author nails small town life and the characters flawlessly and the narrators brought it all to life

Emotional and Raw...A Must Listen!

Rumors by HJ Bellus is a romantic suspense that I listened to on audio narrated by Tyler Darby and Amber Bray. This book was hard for me to categorize and I think the blurb says it best “an unexpected and gut-wrenching tale that will have your heart beating with anticipation.”

This book does come with a Trigger Warning: This book is not intended for readers younger than 18 years of age as it contains dark, violent events and talks in detail about rape.

This is the first book of HJ Bellus that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. She pulled me in from the very first chapter. The story will take you on an emotional roller coaster. I loved that it was raw and honest.

Tyler and Amber did an amazing job on the narration. They really brought the story to life.

Rumors

I wasn't quite sure what to expect after reading the blurb, but I've listened to other stories by HJ Bellus and loved them so I was excited to see where this story would take me. It was a captivating story that took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride that was raw and heartbreaking. Frankie was a shell of a girl nearing adulthood after a traumatic childhood when Dalton first met her. With the help of his brother Dalton helped her and showed her how to live again. It is a beautifully written story of healing and hope. It is heartbreaking, heartwarming and uplifting all in the same book. It does have trigger warnings but it doesn't go into any graphic detail. Tyler Darby and Amber Bray both did a wonderful job bringing this story to life.

Caution! Some chapters have disturbing content of sexual abuse!

I believe in some way or another while, at many different levels —we all may go though horrible, sometimes unbelievable and, catastrophic life altering situation—that change us forever. Everything inside me rejoices at the fact this sweet child victim got her revenge in the end. However, I was also taught two wrongs don’t make it right. The sheriff and the victims love story was way out in left field and, for me it didn’t seem realistic. I don’t believe we should ever take the law in our own hands. Also, this is a story where each person should judge by their own individual perception and for themselves. The performances by both narrators was excellent!
