About this listen

Raised during the Great Depression and coming of age during WWII, this poignant story follows a brother and sister who, though bound by shared past, yearn for very different futures. Left on their own for much of their childhood, they develop an unshakable bond and resilience to face life’s challenges head on.

Through years of separation and personal struggles, their connection endures, proving that ties of family are as enduring as the roots from which they grow. Told from varying perspectives, Roots in the Dust takes the listener on a heartfelt journey, exploring the complexities of family, identity and the paths we choose to follow.

This is a powerful book about WWII. If you loved The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Life is Beautiful, you will love this too, as I did. It has the twist of being told from many perspectives, Chet, Greta, Ginny, and even the parents’ viewpoints, showing the horror from different angles. I like hearing stories like these because they make me stronger in my faith.

I love the soft and warm voice of the narrator. She gives the story the proper tone, making it even better than reading it yourself.

The narrator makes this 100% better
