Summary

Are you new to road bike cycling and looking for some friendly, supportive, down-to-earth help that isn't shared in a way that talks down to you? Then look no further than Road Bike Cycling: The Ultimate Beginner's Guide. This bite-sized beginner's guide doesn't take itself too seriously, and, while written in a playful, amusing style, includes excellent advice that will tell you everything you need to know to get the most enjoyment out of your new road cycling hobby.

This book is brought to you by Ben Phillips, a keen road cyclist for more than 10 years, who shares his extensive experiences - the good, the great, the misfortune, and the mishaps - so that you can benefit from his hindsight and learn to love cycling quicker, safer, and without making the same stupid mistakes he did!

It's been created with new cyclists in mind and is split into three easy-to-navigate main segments - each with their relevant subsections:

  • Before heading out onto the road
  • Out on the road
  • How to manage your partner's expectations (a.k.a. your "cycling widow") when you fall in love with your road bike and want to spend more time with it than them!

So lose yourself in Lycra, smoother yourself in chamois, and clip on those cleats. This is going to be one hell of a ride!

Just wonderful

I have been a cyclist for over 50 years and found this compulsive listening. It is extremely amusing, informative, sensible and inspirational beyond words. The narrator clearly knows their stuff and presents all the information on a very highly listenable manner without dumbing down or as though they are talking to an idiot or indeed are preaching to the converted (which is what I have found many such books and audio recordings tend to do when it comes to a passion like the environment, cycling, etc). It immediately had me scurrying to Google to looks things up and to sign up with their web page. Only criticisms are :
1. No comparison between drop handlebar bikes and those with straight ones - pros and cons
2. No discussion as to the different types of bikes out there - ie hybrid, road, mountain, performance, etc

However, in spite of this, I am going to be returning to this audiobook again again I know ! Very highly recommended.
