Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Jane McDonald may be a BAFTA-winning TV star and platinum-selling artist, but she'll never forget her Northern roots, and she's as much known for her Yorkshire charm and humour as for her showbiz accolades.

The nation first fell in love with Jane 20 years ago, as the break-out star of BBC reality TV show The Cruise

She was catapulted to dizzying overnight success, but since then, she has navigated some stormy waters. Her dreams hit the rocks as TV and music execs, 'the London lot', swooped in and tried to morph her into a generic international diva. Her fans lost their connection with her and melted away. Her marriage, begun with a fairy-tale Caribbean wedding watched by a television audience of 13.5m, ended. Jane lost her confidence and hid from the world.

But Jane's unsinkable, and now she's back on the crest of a wave. In her uplifting autobiography she shares her incredible story with heart and humour. It hasn't always been plain sailing, but now she's enjoying more success than she's ever had before, and her fans love her all the more for it.

Truly Enjoyed This Autobiography!

I have recently been reading and listening to 'Riding The Waves' By Jane McDonald.
Genre: Autobiography

Why I Chose This Book: My wonderful late mother was a huge fan of Jane. My mother and I used to listen to Jane McDonald CD's together. I still listen to Jane's music and watch her TV shows.

About This Book: This is an autobiography of Jane McDonald's life so far. Jane explores her childhood, family, relationships, marriages and friendships etc. She explains how she started from humble beginnings and how she became famous. She also discusses the many ups and down she has experienced on the way.

My Review: I truly felt like I was sitting next to Jane and she was telling me about her life. I felt hooked and engaged by her powerful story. Jane is a genuine and inspiring woman. As Jane explains, she begins life as a very shy girl yet blossoms to a confident women who stops at nothing to get her dream. Yet, she is real at the same time and expresses her struggles through life challenges.
I had a few tears when Jane explains that a certain loved one dies. As I could feel the closeness between Jane and this perticular family member. I can only imagine the heart break Jane must have experienced and still is experiencing.
The ending brought the book to a perfect conclusion.

At times this autobiography felt slow. Also, I feel Jane was overly nice regarding a few 'unkind people'. However, I imagine she could not be fully honest about these few people due to legal reasons.

Audio - Jane's narration is comforting, clear and real.

Triggers - Death of Parents and Divorce.

In conclusion I genuinely enjoyed this autobiography and found it inspiring. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Jane or who would enjoy a read about an inspiring woman.

Excellent and touching

This is a great audio book from the start. It tells the highs and lows of this lovely lady and her career. Funny and sad because it’s told from the heart. I would thoroughly recommend it, a great success.
