About this listen

A classic Leonard thriller featuring Raylan Givens - the inspiration behind the hit show Justified. Palm Beach playboy Chip Ganz needs money - fast. He has spiralling debts, and his mother's gravy-train has just derailed. So he has a plan: He's going to find somebody rich, and take them hostage.

With the help of an ex-con, a psycho gardener and the beautiful psychic Reverend Dawn, he chooses bookmaker Harry Arno as the lucky victim. The trouble is, Harry can scam with the best of them. And that's not the only problem. US Marshal Raylan Givens is sleeping with Harry's ex girlfriend, Joyce, and she wants Harry found...

Elmore Leonard was born in New Orleans on 11 October 1925. He wrote forty-five books during his phenomenal career, including the bestsellers Mr Paradise, Tishomingo Blues, Be Cool and The Hot Kid. Many have been made into successful movies, including Get Shorty with John Travolta, Out of Sight with George Clooney and Rum Punch, which became Tarantino's Jackie Brown. He is the recipient of the Cartier Diamond Dagger Award and the PEN USA Lifetime Achievement Award. He died on 20 August 2013 in Detroit.

Hits all the Leonard spots, ticks all the boxes. Perfect Corona virus reading. Even made me wish I was back in Florida.

Not bad but no excitement. Listened because I watched Justified and a little disappointed.

Terrible story, made worse by very poor narration. Why do the women have to be completely vacuous and slutty?

Pile of dogsh*t, waste of a credit.

Terrible, Don’t bother
