About this listen

'Every time I have ridden 66, within 10 miles of setting off, I never want that ride to end. I think it's because Route 66 encapsulates struggle, and, ultimately, triumphing over unimaginably difficult conditions. I think everyone can connect with that.'

RIDING ROUTE 66 follows Henry Cole as he travels along Route 66, on a journey of self-discovery.
Route 66, or the 'Mother Road', is one of the most famous roads in the USA. Crossing the width of the country, it is an immensely challenging road to travel. Henry has ridden it three times. This book is about the freedom that only the road and a motorcycle can give you, and the importance of embracing the highs and lows of life equally.

Henry is one of the most well-known figures in motorcycling, having presented over twenty series of many TV shows as well as being the founder of bespoke motorcycle manufacturer Gladstone Motorcycles.©2023 Henry Cole (P)2023 Quercus Editions Limited

I enjoyed listening to Henry who was incredibly informative about all things you’d have to consider for this trip. His style of presentation is perhaps a little hard to listen to because of the intonation which could have had a little more variation in tone. Having said that I like his style and he is clearly extremely knowledgeable, having done this route 3 times himself. He was included variations to doing this trip if you don’t have 3 weeks to play with. Great listening and it has inspired me to want to do this trip one day. ☺️

Very helpful tips & advice if you’re thinking of doing Route 66 as a motorcyclist.

I suppose the clue was 'Finding myself' in the title. I was expecting some kind of fairly well detailed travelogue describing the journey on route 66 but it turned into a sort of self help guide for the middle aged man facing his mid-life crisis. Each chapter started with a section of journey but quickly meandered off into well meaning advisory introspection. If you're going to ride the 66 there are useful tips and advice but the book is aimed more at the inner journey rather than the outer.

A realistic view of route 66
Chapter 7 for me was I lightbulb moment as a man over the age of 55. You’ll see when you read it what I mean.
A good book to read or listen too. Read perfectly by the author.
Big thank you henry for sharing this.
