Summary

We're not just losing the wild world. We're forgetting it. We're no longer noticing it. We've lost the habit of looking and seeing and listening and hearing.

But we can make hidden things visible, and this audiobook features 23 spellbinding ways to bring the magic of nature much closer to home.

Mammals you never knew existed will enter your world. Birds hidden in treetops will shed their cloak of anonymity. With a single movement of your hand you can make reptiles appear before you. Butterflies you never saw before will bring joy to every sunny day. Creatures of the darkness will enter your consciousness. And as you take on new techniques and a little new equipment, you will discover new creatures and, with them, new areas of yourself that had gone dormant. Once put to use, they wake up and start working again. You become wilder in your mind and in your heart. Once you know the tricks, the wild world begins to appear before you.

For anyone who wants to get closer to the nature all around them and bring it back into focus, this is the perfect listen.

Good tips on Wildlife watching

A lovely, almost poetic listen.

As a result of this books recommendation, we have booked our summer holiday in Cardigan Bay, for a spot of dolphin watching.

Fantastic

I loved the simplicity but knowledge of this book. The author added humour and the chapters were not too long.

Informative and funny

Great listen, lots of references to C.S Lewis stories opening the chapters. Funny too. :)

Spells to Tune into Our Natural World

Although I already use some of the strategies Simon covers I still really enjoyed this book, it reminds us to keep connected to nature and to let nature back into us. It’s a book that works across generations, and we need to tune in to our wilder nature both for our own wellbeing and that of our magnificent planet. Well narrated. Thank you Simons.

Love

Love this book, magical and helpful - written the way a human mind works almost, snippets of films integrated into practical thoughts - off to the garden!

Rewild yourself

This book is a delight: informative and magical. I consider myself a naturalist but I learnt a lot and I love the way he encourages us to just get to know a few creatures at a time and venture out to wild places that are within reach of all. I look forward to listening to Barnes’ other books

Fascinating

The narration is superb. If I ever meet the author and he doesn't actually talk this way, I'd be quite disappointed... the reader makes palpable the excitement felt at discovering wildlife and becoming wilder.

The book is simple and engaging enough for novices, as well as for veterans of expeditions in the woods and marshes of the UK (I'd even say Europe).

I learned a lot, got inspired to learn more, and got practical advice on how to do that. I'll be listening again and again!

I wish Audible produced decent tables of content...
