About this listen

Profoundly deaf since early childhood, Caleb has always lived on the outside - watching and picking up tell-tale signs people hide in a smile, a cough or a kiss. When a childhood friend is murdered, a sense of guilt and a determination to prove his own innocence sends Caleb on a hunt for the killer. But he can’t do it alone....

Critic reviews

"Viskic has created a genuinely unique and captivating character who deserves a place alongside Jack Irish and Cliff Hardy." (P.M. Newton)

A roller coaster ride. I couldn't stop listening to this book, which I thought was really original. The story moved at pace and was well written. it does contain violence and I did wonder how the lead character was able to carry on after the various assaults he suffered but it is fiction after all. There's some great Australian novels available at the moment.

Great performance

This is the second Aussie crime writer I have been impressed with recently. It is a combination of too much light and too much coffee that seems to produce writers of wit and powerful descriptions.

I was also very impressed with the narrator. This is a true five star listen.

I don’t normally write reviews but I felt I had to mention the narrator in this particular book. He really brought to life the scenes of edrama and tension.
The storyline was excellent and I look forward to reading more about Caleb
