Summary
Die Frau des schottischen Unternehmers Jack Cavendish wird entführt. Was für die Familie ein furchtbarer Schock ist, entwickelt sich für die Ermittler vom Yard schnell zum Buch mit sieben Siegeln. Es gibt scheinbar kein Motiv für die Tat, zumal sich der Entführer in seinem Bekennerschreiben auch deutlich von Geldforderungen distanziert. Rachel O'Hara und Ian Costello vom CID treten bald auf der Stelle, denn sämtliche Ergebnisse der Spurensicherung laufen ins Leere.
Während die Yard-Beamten, zusammen mit Kollegen einer Spezialeinheit, den Fall noch einmal komplett aufrollen, nimmt dieser eine unerwartete Wende: Das Opfer, Margret Cavendish, wird plötzlich wieder freigelassen. So groß die Erleichterung auch ist, die Ermittler zweifeln, dass die Sache damit zu den Akten gelegt werden kann. Und sie sollen Recht behalten. Der perfide Plan, der hinter der Entführung stand, kann sich erst jetzt frei entfalten...
