Part thriller, part courtroom drama, part feminist polemic, Sarah Vaughan’s Reputation should be cemented by this well-written, fast-paced novel. For nine years I lived in Kennington and my local pub was in Cleaver Square, and the setting is not the only aspect of the story that resonated; eerily, I was assaulted on the doorstep of my upper ground floor flat much like protagonist in the novel. We’re talking the late 1980s in my case, but dispiritingly for Labour MP Emma, little has changed. Set in 2021-2, it’s very topical, and griping from start to finish. The twists are believably reflections of the characters portrayed, and the pace fast and unrelenting. Julie Teal is the perfect narrator, and If politics and a cast of interesting characters sounds like your cup of tea, I highly recommend this.

Political drama with pace and intelligent protagonists- I loved this novel

Well narrated and well written but somewhat messy after enjoying Anatomy of a Scandal so much that it is safe in my archive for another day. I think that perhaps it was just too long and with so much angst (understandable in the circumstances) that I really felt for all concerned. However, the story became disjointed during the trial sequences that inspire the last third of this novel and I found myself both confused and irritated. Exactly where was this going and just how many characters had played their part in this 'accidental death or murder'. So much so that I just wanted to get to the end so that I knew - and believe me, it became really messy. Too many strands, too many coincidences and too much subterfuge for my liking. But perhaps it will suit you better - and Sarah really does write well.

Really good story

but the court case was just too long, the 1st twist about "meet me at my place" was obvious, but I never saw the other twist coming
