I enjoyed "Anatomy of a Scandal" but I did find it a little dry so I suppose it was not a huge surprise that I have given up on "Reputation".

Hands up, I am not a political person so this probably was a huge factor in my not engaging but beyond that I just found it heavy going, like homework at times.

The themes of internet revenge by exes and contrasting tight laws on very innocent images of those under the age of consent was very interesting but after a while it seemed too worth and rather like hard work.

Tabloid journalism also a bit of a turn off for me - all a bit gritty and not the escapism I was looking for. Just felt all a bit too up against the coal face for me who enjoys meaty mysteries with a bit of glam escapism and if possibly a glossy, luxe destination thriller as an antidote for the all encompassing drabness of recent times.

I loved the narration by Julie Teal, who put me in mind of the gorgeous dulcet toned Samantha Bond.

I thought the writing was excellent too.

Do I feel terribly shallow returning this title?
Yes, I do as I feel it was a quality listen, just all a bit hard work for me and too little mystery or plot twists although the stalking sequences were very gripping.

Also court cases not my bag either, so I just abandoned ship as life too short to plough though something less exciting than real life.

If you like politics, realism and meaty topics this is for you, if you just want escapism - imagining you are on a sunlounger on a Caribbean beach with a cocktail - feeling blissfully relaxed yet intrigued by fiendishly clever murder mysteries featuring beautiful people preferably in fabulous locations this might be a bit hard going!

Great writing, great narration - just felt like too much hard work - plus all the refences to hearts going pitter pat and racing and thudding and skipping a beat actually made me feel very anxious and uncomfortable especially as a bed time read.

I actually feel relieved I will not have to finish it and feeling like a weight is lifted.

The court monologue is repeated and repeated and the story is predictable, and such a disappointment after ‘Anatomy of a Scandal’. The feminist theme and left wing slant on everything becoming monotonous.
