Summary
Caz Tallis restores rocking horses in her London workshop. When shabby but charismatic Joe and his dog turn up on her roof terrace, she is reluctantly drawn into investigating a rock star's murder from three years before - an unsolved case the police have closed. Stunning Debut Novel
'Remix' is Lexi Revellion's self-published romantic suspense debut novel and as such I think that it compares remarkably well with classics of the genre such as J D Robb's 'In Death' stories. It has an excellent plot, set in London where the author resides, and has an easy to listen to style. The plot plausibility is much enhanced by the use of local London information and by expert knowledge of art and of restoring rocking horses. The characters are also well developed and one can readily feel an empathy for the hero and heroine in their struggle to solve the central mystery.
The pages turn rapidly as the suspense builds and the narrator Anne Day-Jones, while not being as good as my favorite narrators (eg Jennifer O'Donnell), does a good job with the different voices and is easy and pleasant to listen to. While listening in the car, at one point I became so enthralled by the suspense as Rick and Caz lay bound and gagged at the mercy of the two villains, that I missed my motor way exit ..... which allowed me to finish the book before reaching my destination.
There can be no better recommendation!

excellent audiobook
What made the experience of listening to Remix the most enjoyable?
I've been a fan of Lexi's books for a while now. I have actually already read Remix - 3 years ago. After reading Remix and also Replica I contacted Lexi to let her know how impressed I was. She writes at a standard that you just don't expect from self- published authors.Lexi added me to her mailing list. She recently offered a free copy of the audiobook of Remix to her mailing list, in exchange for an honest review. I snapped up the offer as I am just starting to get into audiobooks and loved the idea of having one of a book that I already knew I'd enjoyed. So, the story: great story. I'm not very good at reviews as I don't want to accidentally give the story away, but I love how she writes the main character Caz. The performance: excellent. Anne Day-Jones IS the voice of Caz, and she manages to give all the other characters their own distinct voices to.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
googling with the nose!
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Books don't make me laugh out loud easily, but I did chuckle a good few times. I also gasped a couple of times- pretty impressive as I'd already read the book!
Any additional comments?
Thoroughly recommend this audiobook, if you are looking for something fun but with a good story.

Totally absorbing, feel good thriller
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Definitely
Any additional comments?
I caught one of those airport/plane bugs when returning from holiday and spent a couple of days on the sofa sneezing. Boy was I pleased to have Remix to listen to. Right from the start I was drawn in and what a relief it was to have a reader who read it so well. I have a lot of audio books and some readers I find annoying, but Anne Day-Jones was particularly good and, combined with the writer's excellent descriptions and story-telling skills, I was able to enjoy being stuck on the sofa with a box of tissues and the snivels. It turned into time well spent.
I was so absorbed in this terrific story that nothing else mattered but to root for Caz. This is a thriller that leads you right to knuckle biting and out the other side.
I could listen to this book several times because the settings, descriptions and the characters made me feel as though I was taking part with them and I'd rather be in Remix than doing the chores!

Nice mix of mystery and romance
Any additional comments?
This book is a nice mix of mystery and romance. The main character, Caz, restores rocking horses. One morning she finds a rock star (who the world thought was dead) sleeping on her terrace. He has been accused of murder, and although it was somewhat unbelievable that she would accept him so readily, the book then follows their attempt to find the real killer. The book is well written and the characters, including the secondary characters, are well developed and believable. The narrator is great, able to make each character sound individual. If you are looking for a true murder mystery this isn’t it, there isn’t that much “mystery” to the mystery. The fun part to me was watching Caz discover all the pieces and put them together. But if you are looking for a light, enjoyable book I definitely recommend this. Read her other books too.

Great Listen!
If you could sum up Remix in three words, what would they be?
Couldn't put down
What was one of the most memorable moments of Remix?
There were several. The one that drew me to the book was the opening scene where Cass, the heroine, finds Rick, the hero, on her 3rd floor balcony.
What about Anne Day-Jones’s performance did you like?
She was fabulous! The narrator will make or break a story and Anne Day-Jones certainly made the listen well worth it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.
Any additional comments?

thoroughly enjoyed this story, an easy, fun, romp
I own a copy of this title that I purchased close to release: how could I not with a rock-star returning from the dead to infiltrate the life of a woman who restores rocking horses for a living? It was clever when I read it, and still holds up to the initial promise: full of the insecurities we all have but hide, an omnipresent friend that is hinting toward more than just friendship and a touch of mystery.
Caz is mostly a loner, she restores classic rocking horses in her new house / studio that is just how she likes it. Her budget is tight, and her own creations haven’t taken off, but she is content in her friendship with James, even though there are flashes of him wanting more.
Finding a ‘vagrant’ named Joe on her outdoor patio, 3 floors up, she is necessarily spooked: but the man, Joe, seems familiar and not at all threatening. And he has a motley dog with him, utterly enchanted with his company.
From here, the true identity of Joe is revealed: the lead singer of a now-defunct rock band who disappeared and died after the murder of a colleague. Joe is really Ric, and he maintains his innocence to Caz, so convincing that she believes him and agrees to help unravel the mystery.
The story is fast-paced, with characters that are easy to understand and relate to. The integration of rocking horses and the restoration, and a simple but cleverly twisted mystery that introduces us to Ric’s remaining band-mates and former manager / brother in law moves forward quickly without overly relying on tricks or flourishes to keep readers engaged.
Narration for this story is provided by Anne Day-Jones, and she manages to add twists in accent, delivery and pitch to delineate each character: from slightly northern-tinges to Hackney, posh private school and some hints of other regions, she manages to keep all of the characters straight and distinct without over-reaching. Touches of emotional overlay note frustration, anger, insecurities and even lust to bring a more solid image of the story to light.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, an easy, fun, romp through London and the outlying counties with a touch of romance and a happy little mutt that seems to never be far away.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title from the publisher via AudioBook Jukebox for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Highly Entertaining
This was a highly entertaining mystery. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. There were a couple of moments when the author got wordy and I skipped ahead but only because I wanted to find out what was going to happen. I hope more books by this author will be included in the Audible library.
