Summary

For listeners of Ant Middleton, Jason Fox and SAS: Who Dares Wins comes the extraordinary story of Special Forces soldier Dean Stott.

Everybody has heard the SAS motto that who dares wins, but Special Forces warrior Dean Stott also lives his life by another powerful mantra - that of the relentless pursuit of excellence. In 16 years of service, Dean rose to the top of Britain's fighting force, taking part of some of the most daring and dangerous operations in the war on terror. But then, following a horrific parachuting accident, Dean's dream career was cut short, and his ethos was put to its toughest test.

Just like the day when Dean's dad said that he could never make it as a soldier, Dean's doctors told him that he would never again perform at the elite level.

To put it mildly, Dean disagreed, but even those that knew him were staggered by the mission that he set himself - the man who didn't own a bike would cycle the Pan American Highway, a 14,000 mile route that stretches from Argentina to Alaska, passing through some of the most dangerous countries in the world. A passionate mental health campaigner, Dean decided to up the stakes further by setting himself the task of raising a million pounds for charity. With two world records also in his sights, the stage was set for Dean to rediscover the tenacity, bravery and downright doggedness that saw him rise to the top of the Special Forces.

The final curve ball arrived in the shape of a wedding invitation from his old friend Prince Harry - would he make it back in time for the royal wedding, or at all?

Dean Stott is Relentless, and this is his story.

Not for me

This book had great reviews though I've come to realise with alot of army books that their comrades tend to review highly out of support. I found this a monotone drone in narration terms and maybe because of this was never gripped by the story. Waste of credit for me.

Absolutely incredible!

I almost feel a bit ashamed but I’d never heard of Dean until I saw him on the BBC recently talking about Prince Harry and then this came up in my recommendations.

Not wanting to google and spoil the book I took a bit of a punt and and got this given how much I’ve enjoyed books from some of the other SF Operators. It was absolutely worth it.

Deans story is amazing and he really does deliver some incredibly valuable lessons along the way.

Now the challenge he embarks upon really resonates with me as I’m incredibly new to fitness and running but have signed up for a 30km run and have decided to do it for a higher cause than personal achievement also. I appreciate this isn’t in the same league as Dean’s undertaking but the lack of knowledge, previous training and experience is something I feel a strange familiarity with so I guess I’m a little biased towards everything in this book.

Following the set backs, almost remorseless challenges and sheer curve balls he has thrown at him along the way and his explanation of how he deals with them has been amazing listening and will no doubt prove invaluable to me in my training.

So for anyone who wants push themselves outside of their comfort zone be it just getting up and outside or taking their fitness/career/life to the next level, this is absolutely worth a read/listen.

This will definitely be listened to again!

an ok listen

not a bad listen but seemed to skim over what could be really good story. somewhere between a military story and an extreme athelete. Narration was a bit jumpy and sounded like bits edited in.

Brilliant book

I could not stop listening to this book! I finished it within 2 days! The best part about it is that it was read by Dean the author. So many of these books are narrated by someone else and it doesn’t do the book justice.

Absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to hear about how he gets on kayaking the Nile.

Inspiring and well told life story - well read

Great audio book told in typical British Forces style. Direct, no nonsense, self deprecating with some good banter. Tome flew by listening to it.

No dramas

Great book if you like military, adventure, and /or motivational stories. Author does excellent narration and plenty of funny moments. Now I can't look at pictures of author or hear his name without feeling my leg tendons twitch.

You probably won't like this if you're a cycle snob...but he does make cycling sound really easy ;) The best bit is when he calls out the minority elitist attitudes of some cyclists towards those starting in the sport (an attitude you get in all sports, but not many authors tackle directly).

Excellent book, well with the listen!

This book is real, I always appreciate when the author reads their own book. This one is full of entertaining stories that teach valuable life lessons. There are too many to mention just one. you have to read it yourself!

Solid but too general

it was inspiring but it was too General. I really loved his attitude and what he did but prefer meat and more in-depth stories. Is Broad brush approach left me feeling empty. I think he's got a great life I just wanted to see more of it in the pages.

Don't do yourself a disservice and miss this.

Such an amazing story of an extraordinary human being. Never once was I bored or did I find my mind wondering. The fact it's actually him narrating gives you a good look at his personality and who he is as a man. Competitive, thorough, funny, kind, humble, tough and most of all....Relentless.

A canoeists canoeist

Dean was part of of a top tier unit. In my humble admittedly biased opinion it’s brings the ethos of (IMHO) of worlds best tier 1 unit. It’s well written and the descriptions of of training, patriotism and conflict are accurate and humble. The behaviors illustrated are spot on. No fluff.given the rough pavement this blokes had to run on he exhibits character. He doesn’t portray himself as special (he was) that what makes him happy. Any warrior or aspirational warrior should by this book.I wish I’d had it to read when I was younger. He’s simply a good egg even if you would buy the book given his sacrifices for god and county .... when you read it you also get a bloody good read I face my best purchase on audible. My eyes are faded. I took in too much sun so I use audible plus I’m on the road 300 days a year. I loved Rouge Warrior but this bloke fells more humble right better and as a commoner to transition from Army Para’s to his later apex evolution. Accurate inspiring bloody good read! Spike recommend it. If you have a spirit of service a must read. If you can’t afford it and convince me your worth it I’ll buy you copy(limit 50) I’m not a rich bloke and I’ll ask some questions if you won’t answer of don’t impress I’ll save my quid for the man who can. Brilliant Dean I expected solid this is brilliant....Spike
