Emotional and heartbreaking
Two brothers, one girl and a tragedy. Oh, my heart. This book was beautifully heartbreaking as it goes back and forth between present and a 10-year time frame. Penelope is a young foster girl who has had bad luck with her guardians when she meets the brothers Cold and Linc. Her life changes for the better and soon deeper feelings get involved – until tragedy strikes … I love a good love triangle … though I’m always wary if / how cheating might be involved. It can fit and add to the story if done right, but it can also make or break a novel from me. Luckily, things in this book played out way differently from what I would have expected – in a good but gut-wrenching way. It’s a story of young love and discovering yourself. Of loss and betrayal. Overcoming guilt and finding redemption. Of family drama and finding the person you’re destined to be with, even if the road toward them is hurtful and rocky. A wonderful first listen by this author, only enhanced by the great dual narration by Charley Ongel and Tor Thom, and I’m definitely checking out the next book in this series!

Stays with you
This one stayed with me long after I had listened to it, it is beautifully written and gives so many feels. The characters are not easy to let go of and I can’t wait to dive into the next one. This book is one that doesn’t pull it’s punches and I loved it. It is so incredibly raw and powerful which was perfect. The narrators have done a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life, giving them personality and their own voices so that it was easy to know who was who. Definitely a book I know I will revisit time and time again.

An intense emotional angsty read
The first book in the Sterling Series definitely packed a punch in the drama department! An almost love triangle, almost forbidden relationship vibes as the heroine Penelope (P) grows to love two brothers, who have both been fascinated by her from the day they met. The audiobook was performed wonderfully by Thor and Charley, their voices were easy to listen to and I loved Charley's performance especially for P she really brought her to life! The narration was clear and well paced, with definition in vocal range when voicing other characters in their respective chapters. Linc is the eldest brother and a bit of a rebel, the son to do as he pleases, drink, drugs, woman he is a player but when he was a child he was captivated by a young foster girl Penelope and brought her into the Sterling family fold. When Linc saw his younger brother Colt also taking a shine to P he knew his brother was the better choice for her. Colt is the sterling who upholds the family reputation and the one their Father holds to a high standard, to marry for status and keep their position in the societal circles. Colt begins to struggle to balance his feelings and the pressures put on him to be the perfect Sterling son and this all builds up to one set of disastrous turn of events. With Linc and P both struggling to come to turns with what has happened they are drawn together again but their guilt fuels the angsty fire between them and their family is torn apart. I loved the intensity between Linc and P, he is a bit of a douche, mean, teasing and a total tease; but she is not one to back down and gives as good as she gets. Regrets has an enemies to lovers feel about it, but it's because they shouldn't be together but they can't help the feelings they both have. The book is packed full of emotion, and I really felt the turmoil from P, Linc and Colt and how this affected their youngest brother Asher too (his story is going to be an interesting one). Regrets for me is the kind of romance I love, not overly flashy, it's real and it's raw, the characters have depth and they are well developed, you truly understand what drives them and their decisions and you get lost in the story completely. When the gut punches came they totally side swiped me and I was stunned, I had that ache in my gut that comes with the moments of heartbreak in a really good read and that is what cemented this book as an almost perfect read for me!

Wow
Unconventional is the first word that comes to mind with this one. But it was so good in all of its differences. I needed something that didn’t follow a cookie cutter, and this definitely gave me that. Angst levels were perfect, the drama, the whole nine yards. I think I might be in love with the Sterling family. The narrators brought these characters to life in a way that perfectly complemented their characters.

Enemies to lovers brilliant!
What an emotional ride, the angst and darkness of an enemies to lovers romance was delivered in the best way. I really liked the story, Penelope and Linc´s story was emotional and full of angst and pain. The topics the author chooses for this story definitely gave it a boost. The characters are deep and the writing was great, I got the audiobook and I can say that the narrators Tor Thom and Charley Ongel did a brilliant job with their characters. I would definitely recommend it.

3.75 Stars
3.75 Stars Audio Review; Nicole Dykes is a fairly new author to me and I am familiar with the narrators Tor Thom and but Charley Ongel is a new narrator to me. This was gripping. Emotional and honestly, heart breaking. This was a forbidden romance, with all the angst that goes along with that. The audio was engaging and I love the sound of Tor Thom's voice. I volunteered to listen and review a complimentary copy of this. All opinions are my own.

This was absolutely brilliant!! An angst filled, emotional, tear jerking listen. This was a frenimies to lovers romance. The writing was dark, gritty and high on the angst. Penelope and Linc were hot together and I loved how well the author wrote their characters. Tor Thom and Charley Ongel have performed a phenomenal, masterpiece of a narration that literally brought the characters to life. All the stars!!

Emotional listen!
Regrets is all consuming as a listen. Nicole Dykes has written a forbidden romance that will stick with you long after you read or listen to it. Penelope is welcomed into Linc and Colt's home. As a foster child, it's hard to find any place that is comfortable. It's clear she is in love with Colt, but has a love/hate relationship with Linc. And now as time goes by, tragedy strikes, circumstances change, and Linc and Penelope are left to pick up the pieces and move on. But will they be able to? Talk about dark, gritty and down right amazing. Dykes takes us on a ride that is hard to get off. I couldn't stop listening to this book. It's high on passion, full of remorse and guilt, and will hurt your heart. The twists and turns this book takes leading to closure are incredibly heartbreaking. This is a taboo in the most delicious of ways, and it's easy to devour. I can't wait to see what is coming next. Tor Thom and Charley Ongel bring this gem to life. They are a perfect fit to these character. Tor brings an edginess to Linc, a man with attitude yet adds so much underlying emotion that your heart will break. Ongel nails Penelope with her outwardly passionate and temperamental outbursts. I love this team, and this book brings out their best.

loving is hard with regrets
I enjoyed the narrators performance they acted out penelope and lincoln's parts almost exactly what i had envisioned it as when reading the ebook. the story itself is phenomenal about young love early loss but over all knowing your soulmate and who can bring you the happiness you deserve sadly some are scorned along the way. but I enjoy nicole's story telling and the timeline is always throughly explained throughout the audiobook and I like the shock at the end the family never saw coming but learned to accept so beautiful .

All consuming
Wow...this audible blew me away. The story was so...raw and all consuming. My heart broke, I felt joy, I felt so many different emotions though this whole thing that it was hard not to get wrapped up in everything that happened to Linc and Penelope. This is definitely not an easy ride but it's so worth it in the end. A real...well page turner if I had been reading the actual book. I also thought the voices fit the characters very well which is always a positive cause I've listened to a few that didn't and it created a complete disconnect with the book. I would definitely say a five star read all around and can't wait to listen to more books from this author.

So many feeling and ups and downs!
Yikes this story took me through a gambit of emotions! This is a deep, gritty soulful book! I could let help but feel for the characters. They have depth and touch on all the emotions that are available. This reminded me of family drama that you would see on a soap opera. One girl and two brothers equals a messy family. It’s interesting how everyone has regrets for a different side of the coin. We also get introduced into Linc’s family in here. They are all intruiging and I think they would each make for a good story. I hope Asher calms down as he gets older. The epilogue was a perfect Overall this is a wonderful story. Full of sweet love, hard love and compelling characters. I did listen to this on audio. Tor Thom and Charley Ongel did a good job narrating.

Tortured Souls
WOW talk about tortured souls! Linc and Penelope are both lost souls for so many of the same reasons but each is dealing with their own demons. Nicole Dykes does an amazing job developing these characters from preteens, teenagers and beyond. Linc's brother Colt is the center of all their anguish, as well as the rest of the family. This is the first book in an interconnected series. The healing for everyone begins in Regrets but it is only the start of healing, This book pulls you into this family and truly makes you feel everything including their healing!

The Sterlings
Regrets (The Sterlings #1) begins the love for the Sterling family. First word begins and brings history and present day together building a descriptive realistic world. I love the layout of the story and how smoothly it flows through till the very end. Characters are fully fleshed out with complex characteristics. Such much passion is built into this amazing story. Reams of angst and heartbreaking moments leading to tragedy. Slivers of unexpected twists seep through the pages in slices. A forbidden romance with a hint of taboo that is gratifying. I love the ending and look forward to listening to the next audio in this series about The Sterlings. : Narators Tor Thom, Charley Ongel natural chemistry shines through with their portrayal of Linc and Penelope. Each puts their own spin on their performance. Tor's deep gravelly inflection brought a draw to Linc's character. Charley brings her own dramatic flair in her performance of Penelope. Excellently written and narrated audio.

Linc & P!
Regrets is a great listen! The story of the Sterling family’s struggles and emotional trauma after the loss of a loved one and the events before and after that day. It took me a bit to get into the book as their was a lot of flash backs to catch up on before I fully understood the relationship between Linc and Penelope but once I got into the story I was hooked. Both characters had so many regrets, there was lots of angst and in the end they both had to heal and grow before they could get their HEA. Tor Thom & Charley Ongel are an excellent narrator pairing, they did not disappoint!

Angst, grief, love. 1000% you should listen!
I read the book back in July and it is full of angst, grief, and love. Now multiply that by 1,000% when you listen to the audiobook. Tor Thom and Charley Ongel exquisitely narrate this book. Their voices bring the anguish, ooze passion, and bring this, already an incredible story, to a whole new level. Regrets is about two brothers (Linc and Colt) and one girl (Penelope). They build fast connections but you learn very early that tragedy impacts their lives and you follow them through grief. I love how Dykes does not back away from showing this messy journey. The story flips back and forth between the present and the past. Each chapter provides nuggets of insight into their history or their current state. I was riveted by every chapter. Dykes gives you just enough to keep you intrigued and wanting more. As the story develops and the revelations are revealed, I was rocked to my core. You think you know how the story is going to go, then you learn something new and it makes you question EVERYTHING. Regrets has you think about how your choices affect your life. You are forced to think about the impact of how you feel once you learn the truth about others’ actions. It also has you think about the different types of romantic love you have in your life and ultimately what is the best choice. I received a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
