About this listen

Honest enemies are better than false friends.

Ben, Joel, and Ed find themselves in the belly of the beast. During a heroic mission to find Emma’s much needed medicine, the trio, and Max, Ed’s highly trained canine companion, are captured and questioned. Ben learns a difficult lesson. Sometimes, the person you’d take a bullet for is standing behind the trigger.

They must find a way to escape, rescue Max if he’s still alive, and get the medicine back to Emma. The only thing standing in their way is a blood thirsty gang of lawless extremists.

The Patriot Hooligans have plagued Ben and the others since crossing the state line, leaving gruesome examples of the gang’s blood lust in their wake. Ben did what he could to avoid the gang and continue on to their home in Colorado, but circumstances dictated otherwise.

Ben, his son Joel, and Ed must now face their biggest adversary yet, while at the same time struggling to come to terms with some hard truths about the post-apocalyptic world they live in, and the people they trusted.

The narrator does a good job. I have enjoyed the series so far, and have warmed to the characters overall. The storyline is good but does feel a little drawn out in places. This book in particular though wound me up with the amount of times the RZRs were mentioned by name. It started to make me cringe it was so often. Can’t wait for them to leave those vehicles behind so I don’t have to hear the name again!

Great narration, good characters…

If it wasn’t for the fact that the narrator’s voice is genuinely helpful for my insomnia, I wouldn’t still be listening to this extreme right wing, NRA, MAGA nonsense. According to the author, everyone on welfare is stealing from the state and the ‘elites’ are ruining the country. Apparently what the country really needs is an EMP. I find it worrying that people like the author not only have ready access to high-powered weaponry but fantasise about using it. There’s the grain of a story in here somewhere, but it’s lost in all the gun p**n!

Far too much right wing rhetoric and gun p**n

I have given up listening to this series. The constant detail on firearms (and fire fights) is boring. I guess the books are written with the American market in mind where there is greater knowledge and understanding of firearms but for me it's ruined what is a good story line.
