About this listen

Red Lipstick & Revelations includes international prize-winning and commended poetry. The poems take you on an unexpected and winding journey from the African night air to Montreal, the road to Strathclyde, or the Stranraer ferry. Shipwrecked, silver surfing, or dressed to kill, we encounter love, loss, lamentation, laughter...and lipstick.

Often very moving, but at the same time deftly wry in places, this reading by the author herself captures a breadth of time, place and person and carries the reader from Croydon, to South Africa, to the pages of a family bible peppered with forgotten coupons, and through a myriad of conversations, thoughts and scenes with backdrops as varied as a hairdressing salon and the back seat of a Mazda. The characters range from a survivor of a concentration camp reminding us that none of us is just a number to a handbag maker in Cape Town provoking the listener to question, no less effectively, why some human beings are just so awful to each other. A very enjoyable listen!

Entertaining, colourful, and thoughtful - well worth a listen

I have the physical book of this collection but listening to poetry is quite special and this audio version hasn't disappointed. Personal, often comical and true in so many ways, the author has brought them to life. I enjoyed having these on whilst I was doing something menial, how wonderful to feel as though the writer is there with you.

Beautifully written, beautifully recited
