Summary

Moving from a Texas ranch to an Australian Outback station was a life-changing decision for Travis Craig. Though it wasn’t really a decision at all. Something in his bones told him to go, though he had no clue as to why.

Until he met Sutton Station’s owner, Charlie.

Loving Charlie shouldn’t have been easy. The man was stubborn and riddled with crippling self-doubt. No, it shouldn’t have been easy at all. Yet somehow, falling in love with Charlie was the easiest thing in the world.

Loving him was easy. Living with him, teaching him how to love in return and, more importantly, how to love himself, was not.

But Travis knew all along it’d be worth it. He knew the man with the red dirt heart was destined to be his. Just like he knew the red dirt that surrounded him was where he was supposed to be.

In the final installment of the Red Dirt series, we see Charlie through Travis' eyes. We see how much he’s grown and how much he loves. We go back to Texas with them, and we see Charlie get everything he truly thought he never deserved.

Red Dirt Heart 4 is Travis' story.

And this is the story of not just one red dirt heart, but two.

Have the tissues ready.

I knew going in there were parts of this story that would break my heart, but the level of emotion Joel Leslie put into this book, especially with that one particular chapter, had the tears rolling down my cheeks.
Another superb performance of a great book.

Brilliant book to listen too

Great book to listen too. Joel's audio is great, he manages to give the American accent without it being over powering and balances with the Australian ones, brilliant!

I Love This Series! 🎧❤️

Red Dirt Heart 4 picks up about a year after RDH3, and is a bit of a departure as Walker changes things up to have Travis provide the POV this time. I love Charlie, with his inner monologues and dichotomy of strength and vulnerability, but getting Travis’s point of view was terrific.

There’s so much here: humor, love, romance, a wedding (or two), some heartbreak, a very big surprise, and a very happy ending.

And all of it is masterfully narrated by Joel Leslie. This audiobook is what happens when you marry a beautiful story with an accomplished narrator. It’s wonderful, and terrible, and joyous, and heartbreaking all at the same time. I cried, I laughed, I sobbed, and I sighed. I love this series and Joel Leslie’s performance of it. The Red Dirt Heart series is definitely in my auto-rotation!

Hands Down the VERY BEST series

You will fall in love with every single character and the romance is absolutely palpable and never gratuitous. So very well written and imagined. I enjoyed every millisecond of this story.

Perfect conclusion to a heartwarming tale.

***** Five stars from start to finish *****

The Red Dirt Heart series is one of my favorites. Throughout the books we see all the characters grow as a family, not one of blood, but one of choice: growing together and supporting each another without question or judgement. Red Dirt 4 concludes Charlie and Travis story with a heartwarming tale of love, loyalty and strength.

As confident as Charlie has become, throughout this book we experience his lingering insecurities through Travis' eyes until Charlie finally accepts Trav’s love and settles into the man he has become. Early in this story (in typical Red Dirt style), Charlie is again put through the wringer only now instead of pushing Travis away, he's grown into himself and their relationship enough that he is able to lean on Travis for support.

Set roughly 2 years in the storyline after Red Dirt 1 (and before Australia has passed its laws on Gay marriage), we get to experience the couple solidify their unbreakable bond and fully commit to each other.
["And there against the perfect landscape and setting sun, two red dirt hearts became one."]

The Epilogue (spread over 20 years), gives us a glimpse into the future of Sutton Station with snippets of Charlie and Travis' future and the happily ever after they both worked so hard for and so richly deserve.

NR Walker writes the full gamut of emotions into the Red Dirt books, and number 4 is no different. Joel Leslie, narrates the raw emotion that pours from the characters throughout the entire 9 hours of story to perfection.

A wonderful creation of love, hope, and family.

Through all four books, the joy, heartache, understanding, show the true meaning of family and love. Characters were brought to life with the written word, have the feeling of being there , with each breakthrough Charlie makes with Trev's help. Joel Leslie brings so much to all the souls in this wonderful story, Trevor has the heart and Charlie the unsure hope.

Perfect end to a great series

I always hate reaching the end of a series I really enjoyed, but if it has to come to a conclusion this is the way I’d like things to wrap up. Not surprisingly we get a HEA for Travis and Charlie (and their friends and family), but it’s the final chapters that make for a truly exceptional end to the series. They give us glimpses into their futures at a few points over about 20 years and each of these points is long enough to really feel like a fully developed part of the story rather than just a quick snapshot like many epilogues. I also really liked that we finally got inside Travis’s head in this book rather than a continuation of Charlie’s POV.
If you’ve read the previous books I imagine you’re planning to read this one as well but I really think you’ll be happy with it and how this series ends... I certainly am!

Red dirt gets everywhere - even into my heart!

I listened to this book exclusively on audio so I feel like I need to separate my review between the book itself and the audio.

THE AUDIO

I'm not sure what else I can say about Joel Leslie that I haven't already said for Books 1 - 3. He is truly a master storyteller. I have done so much laughing, smiling and crying in my car because of how well Mr. Leslie tells this story. I've listened to four books and I still can't decide whether I like his Travis voice or his Charlie voice better. Fortunately, I don't have to choose. I can love them both.

Mr. Leslie has set the bar very high. I just hope my next audio book can live up to this!

THE BOOK

OMG - If there was ever any doubt how much I loved Charlie and Travis, this book would put smash that doubt into dust. With every single book I've grown to love these boys and their family more and more. The love they have for each other, their devotion to each other, their hopes and fears and dreams, the boring everyday stuff that's never boring with Charlie and Travis, it all combines together to make theirs a love story for the ages.

I really enjoyed hearing this book from Travis's POV. I loved Charlie's POV but finally getting to hear how Travis sees Charlie was the perfect way to end this beautiful story. I loved that we still got the nose nudges, the reassuring thigh squeezes and the feet wrapping under the table. And we got to see them settle into their life together.

I haven't finished the Epilogue yet so I'll come back to add my thoughts on that.
