Summary

Of all the dukes in England, Jered Marcus Benton, the Duke of Bradford, was the wealthiest, most handsome - and most arrogant. And of all London's ladies, he wanted the tender obedience of only one - Caroline Richmond.

She was a ravishing beauty from Boston, with a mysterious past and a fiery spirit. Drawn to the powerful duke, undeterred by his presumptuous airs, Caroline was determined to win his lasting love. But Bradford would bend to no woman - until a deadly intrigue drew them enticingly close. Now, united against a common enemy, they would discover the power of the magnificent attraction that brought them together... a desire born in danger, but destined to flame into love!

Great Story..splurge on the unabridged version

I really LOVE Garwood novels and bought this abridged version because it was cheaper and thought that I would enjoy the faster read. I was very dissapointed with how rushed everything was . The unabridged version of this novel is much BETTER!!!

Rebellious book

This book started out good, but then jumped too fast to come close to being realistic. Also, the book is not narrated by Anne Flosnik. The book is narrated by Elizabeth Swain. Had Anne Flosnik narrated the book I think I would have liked the book better. The narrator could not do male voices. I did not enjoy listening to the book by this narrator.

Victim blaming, lack of consent, horrible narrator

I read this book when I was younger and remember really enjoying it. I bought the Abridged version by accident but which how bad the narration is and how big of a victim blaming jerk face the love interest I feel like it was a blessing in disguise. The narrator is very melodramatic, has one voice for females and one voice for males and it makes things confusing. Perhaps with more story development from the unabridged version I wouldn't hate it so much but this beyond disappointing.

Read the book instead.

I've discovered that these types of books just don't translate well when narrated. The female attempts to capture a man's voice (especially with a British accent) make the men sound like either pompous asses, or very effeminate. Some parts of the narrations were just embarrassing and very silly to listen to. I guess if you're going to read a romance novel (which can be pretty silly and juvenile anyway), it's better to just read it, and not listen audibly.

Rape Culture Promoted Here

Let me say first off, the narrator did a very good job. I usually like this author's books, she is a competent writer. However, this book is seriously disturbing in very subtle ways. This woman is attracted to this man, and he is attracted to her, that's great. In nearly every scene he tries to kiss or grope her, she attempts to pull away or tell him to stop, and, in the authors words, "he forced her" or "didn't allow her" to pull away. She is quite clearly falling in love with a man who does not respect women. When she is attacked by another man, he says, "this is your fault...if you didn't dress like a common woman". Some other wonderful quotes, "do not mention trust to me again or I will beat you". Regardless of how this book continues, I find it completely unacceptable that the protagonist continues this relationship. It is dangerous and I hope the author reconsiders her wording in stories like this. Her intent was to create sexual tension but there are better ways to do this and she has done better in other books.
