Sadness is guaranteed :(

I’m not usually interested in listening to real crime and I seldom watch the News either, as it is always so depressing. Though after enjoying ‘West Cork’, another real crime documentary, which I originally thought was going to be a fictional audio-drama decided to give ‘Real Crime’ a try. It’s free so can always delete it after a few minutes, but I didn’t.

There’s ten episodes and they are all really well produced by ITN:

01. The Philpotts
02. The Story of Louise Woodward
03. Playing with My Killer
04. The Jamie Bulger Story
05. The Story of Raoul Moat
06. The Bus Stop Rapist
07. The Hungerford Massacre
08. Sarah Payne’s Killer
09. The Ipswich Murders
10. The Wimbledon Common Killer

As you can see none of the episodes are going to be uplifting or happy, sadness is guaranteed so best make sure you are in the right frame of mind beforehand.

FAO Audible: I’m confused, in the narrative it says: “from the murderous marriage of Fred and Rose West to Jamie Bulger's killers”. Though there isn’t an episode on Fred and Rose West, where's it gone?

So chilling!

I binged this series really quickly. I listen to a lot of true crime and these episodes were really compelling, containing real audio from 999 calls and other great material. Not for the faint-hearted!

Excellent - sad, sensitive, shocking, gripping

Some very tough stories told very well with sensitivity and respect. I can't believe I had forgotten about some of these.

Chillingly brilliant

Would you listen to Real Crime again? Why?

Yes - based on real world stories, you can find out more about some of these horrific crimes online which challenge your perception, both from what you read and what you hear in this series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The very start of the series, with the 999 call from the Philpotts and the narrative of the Hungerford Massacre

Any additional comments?

Chilling. Honest. Unbelievable. One I'd recommend to anyone.

Gripping

Fantastic series, with enough detail to paint a picture of each case without being too disturbing.

James bulger

I enjoyed listening to these true crimes but found it incredibly disrespectful that on more than one occasion and in the title they call James bulger Jamie.

Cleverly retold

My one complaint is that the episodes don’t go on long enough! Very interesting way to retell famous crime events.

Outstanding British Crime Series

This is a superb series about several crimes which challenged how the British view crime and punishment. Sadly, we in the US are all to familiar with several of these. These cases shocked and horrified that country. Hear what happened and the changes made. Riveting.

A unique kind of audiobook

This is not a usual audiobook, as this is about real events of crimes. The way this was told is amazing. Interesting! Plus the added background music adds some touch to the audiobook!

Hate the Sound Effects and music.

I download books to hear them read. Not for theatrical embellishment. It is distracting and unnecessary to have music in the background and sound effects. It is really irritating having more noise. If I am reading a book I do not turn on the radio or tv. I am looking for a peaceful experience not more noise.

HORRIFIC!<br />

Terrible crime, I can't believe they only got jail time. Don't understand how parents or so called parents could do such a thing to their children. They should suffer like their poor children did.

Just Excellent

Genuinely enjoyed listening and learning some facts behind rather infamous cases. I like that the episodes are short and to the point, very well done. If you’re a fan of real life cases and mysteries this is for you!

Shock and Riveting

I am greatly saddened with the stories so much tragic loss. With that said it was very interesting to listen to and learn about the way the crimes are solved.

Intriguing

I am amazed at the human ability to force cruelty on another person. These stories intrigue me and repulse me at the same time. A good listen.
