Summary
Achieve self-sufficient egg and meat production with this complete crash course.
Keeping hens in your backyard is a rewarding hobby for a variety of reasons. The eggs are a delectable temptation, they are tastier and more fresh than any eggs that can be purchased in a supermarket, and they are also superior for use in baking. Toss the shells and the chicken manure straight into the compost pile. There is no need to separate them. The birds amuse themselves for the better part of the day by eating grass, worms, beetles, and other tasty things that are necessary for the production of those delicious farm eggs. In addition to this, chickens are wonderful friends for gardeners because they have a keen eye for bug infestations.
Even though keeping chickens may sound like a delightful hobby, the majority of individuals who are interested in beginning their own flock simply do not know how to get started.
Here is what this excellent guide will offer you:
- Things to consider before getting chickens: find out why raising chickens in your backyard is the best option for you.
- Choosing the right chicken breeds: discover the easiest way to plan which type of coop is best for you, where to put it, and how many chickens to have.
- How to build a chicken coop: find out everything you need to know about coops, from the supplies you'll need to the bedding and extras you'll want, or where to buy one if you're not the building type.
- Collecting, cleaning, and storing chicken eggs: we answer all these questions and more in our article on how to collect, clean, store, and hatch chicken eggs!
Discover how raising your own chickens can be a fun and profitable endeavor!

Excited to get started
As I beginner, I really liked this book. My aunt has been trying to get me to raise chickens for years as she very much enjoys it. But she’s never really educated me as to how to get started. This book covers the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ and I feel much better about getting started after listening to it. The narrator keeps it simple and isn’t overwhelming. Who knows, maybe I’ll even end up selling eggs eventually. I’ll definitely be referencing back to the book as I get started.

Chicken Coop Bootcamp
The author never promises you a rose garden but does promise that you will receive a proper indoctrination about how to take care of your chickens. Just like a drill sergeant shows the Marine recruit how to take care and clean their weapon so it can fire properly to kill their enemy. This is a bootcamp for how to raise and take care of chickens to feed your family. After listening to this audiobook you will be prepared to transform that open space in to an egg producing backyard chicken coop in no time.

So Much Great Info!
Wow! This book is Very complete from start to finish. I never knew that chickens were original h raised for the eggs and that the meat was for a special occasion.
The author did an amazing job giving the history of chickens, and even spoke about how the indigenous breeds of chickens are mixed with the present day breeds to continue the indigenous traits. The author states that it’s so important to know the backstory of the chicken so you will know how to care for them. Wow. Just like human beings. That was eye opening.
It was helpful to hear about the different types of chicken, and the different types of feed or eggs they need to eat for optimal health. I can imagine that the fact that chickens are affectionate might make a bit challenging for the owners and their families, especially since the reason for raising the chickens is to partake in the end.
The author also lets you know up front that, although raising chickens is very rewarding, there is a major cost involved. Research, resources and planning are essential. You need to make sure your chickens are fed and housed appropriately. This is really good to know because I know a couple of people who have tried to do this but they end up running into so many issues because they didn’t preplan properly. Knowing that certain chickens are really noisy, may have certain behaviors like self mutilating, etc which could make the coop really smelly. All of these things one just prepare for and be aware of. My favorite quote: “If you don’t clean the poop your whole house may smell of poop!”
This book is a must read for anyone who is interested in raising chickens. Even if you’re already doing it, this book is a good resource to reinforce what you’re already doing!!

Happy moms!
First of all, I would like to say I really enjoyed listening to the narrator as he has this lively, joyous tone for the topic! :)
The book is well-written as well that kept me hooked. The author has done his research and has done a good job of elaborating on the topic interestingly and compassionately!
I love how it emphasises creating a safe, healthy, and loving environment to raise HAPPY and HEALTHY chickens.
Every chapter is my favourite, but I find the section on the tips to keep your chickens warm in the winter and cool in the summer as I live in the UK where the weather and climate are not the best..
You will learn everything you need to know about raising chickens in this book! I highly recommend it to anyone even considering raising chickens!

An Audiobook to Flock to
This audiobook has it all. From the history of chicken domestication to breeds, feeds, and what you need to raise healthy chickens. You'll find what it takes to make a great chicken coop, proper bedding, and a nesting box. You can even start a business by selling eggs that you pick all on your own. If you're looking for an essential tool to get started with raising chickens in your own backyard, or if you plan on homesteading and want to not rely on grocery stores for food, then "Raising Chickens for Beginners" is just the thing for you. The narrator did a good job relaying all the information and paced himself very well. It wasn't rushed, so I understood what he said. I'm planning on using the things I learned when I start my own coop. I just have to figure out the legalities in my area.
