About this listen

Yeah, yeah, the usual. A crime. A corpse. A killer. Heard it. Except this stiff happens to be a Ponsonby, scion of a venerable Edinburgh medical clan, and the manner of his death speaks of unspeakable things. Why is the body displayed like a slice of beef? How come his hands are digitally challenged? And if it's not the corpse, what is that awful smell?

A post-Thatcherite nightmare of frightening plausibility, QUITE UGLY ONE MORNING is a wickedly entertaining and vivacious thriller, full of acerbic wit, cracking dialogue and villains both reputed and shell-suited.©1996 Christopher Brookmyre

Everything was fine with this story. But the guitar bookending each scene is totally unnecessary and off putting.

Great story. Shame about the god awful music.

Don't look for anything like breathtakingly deep thoughts, subtle hints or realism... Instead, jump in and enjoy brainless action as this is what truly shines in this book!

Brilliantly made "action movie" book

Really enjoyed this story, and David Tennant's reading of it. Going to look out for more books from Brookmyre. Only thing that spoiled it a bit was the music in between chapters. Totally unnecessary!

Great performance, great story, wholly unnecessary music

David Tennant does a very good job bringing this first Jack Parlabane story to life, just sad that it is an abridged version. I found the guitar interludes distracting, especially when they overlapped with the reading.

Good but abridged version

One of my favourite authors and David Tennant is perfect reading it

A great introduction to Chris Brookmyre’s work. You’re in for a treat if this is your first listen.
