Great story. Shame about the god awful music.
Everything was fine with this story. But the guitar bookending each scene is totally unnecessary and off putting.

Story ruined by awful music!
Firstly I should probably say I am not averse to some heavy guitar. However, despite enjoying the story, the black humour and narration by David Tennant, I was annoyed by the obtrusive gnaw of awful 90s-inspired rock guitar riffing. Seriously? After that I stopped concentrating on the story and started cringing in expectation ofthe next chapter break. Whose 'brilliant' idea was that? I definitely won't be listening to any more titles by this author, just in case.

90's crime novel has excellent narrator
I must admit, I only picked up this audiobook to listen to David Tennant being amazingly Scottish for a couple of hours. Got what I came for and very much enjoyed it. The novel was fine too.
It reminded me of detective stories from the 80's and 90's.
Watch out for the badass and obnoxious guitar/synth solos between chapters! They're noisy but makes every last sentence sound smug and hardcore.

A rattling good read
A good story well written with strong characters and a frighteningly believable plot. A group of individuals are determined upon a course of fraud and they have the National Health Service in mind. Beware there is an excess of gruesome injuries and gory discoveries and the language is 'strong'. Only four stars because the music is unnecessary and irritating. David Tennant brings the whole thing to life with glorious and colourful reading. Highly recommended .

Loved it all except music
Tennant is great, story is brilliant. But wish you didn't have blaring rock music between each chapter

Why the bloody music?
Love this book. It was the first Chris Brookmyre book I read at the advice of a friend.
I have it in hardback and on my iPad. So why the bad review?
First the bloody awful screeching throughout the book make it impossible to listen to! Secondly the book has been chopped so much to bits it’s almost like one of the victims of the book. It has been cut so much that a lot that’s left doesn’t make sense.
It appears to be the only abridged book in the Chris Brookmyre series on audible.
I beg you if you haven’t read it ( or if you have) don’t buy this book. It’s a shame as I love David Tennet and I’m sure he doesn’t like his name attached to such a poor piece of work

Not for the squeamish
but you know what you are getting with a Brookmyre. Enjoyable as always, he was recommended to me as an Scottish Carl Hiaasen, and that is a good description.
This is about the fourth or fifth of his I've listened to, and for some unknown reason, has very intrusive musical interludes between chapters. I do hope the bloke who thought this was agood idea has been fired, because it isn't.

Very Good
The author likes to shock you with gut wrenching descriptions and blue language at the start( maybe the first words were to do with a bet in his college years) but after he settles down and gets into his stride, he proves himself to be a very good story teller. Well paced, witty and good value for money would recommend it to anyone, except my grandma!
