Summary

A New York Times best seller.

Get ready to encounter a book that will change your experience as a woman in a powerful new way. Author, educator, and School of Womanly Arts founder Regena Thomashauer has been working with women for the past 25 years, and what began as just a few women in her living room has since grown into a global movement with thousands of graduates worldwide.

In her newest book, Pussy: A Reclamation, you'll discover what no one taught you about the source of your feminine power and how to use it. It's no secret that women today are still undervalued at home, at work, and in relationships. Too many of us are at war with our bodies and disconnected from our truth.

See, we live in a culture that teaches us to turn off. To play small. To take care of everyone else first. To keep a lid on our dreams and a cork in our truth.

This book is written to reacquaint a woman with her own power source - which is the part of herself she has been taught to ignore, push down, and despise. Indeed, the word that most viscerally sums up that power is, as Regena puts it, "arguably the most powerful pejorative word in the English language". Like any expletive used effectively, the title of this book is meant to be a wake-up call. It is a reclamation in a world that desperately requires the feminine.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • The key practices required to seek and speak your deepest truth, no matter what
  • How to embody radical self-celebration and why it will change your life
  • How to end the war with your body - and, rather, see it for what it is: beautiful, sacred, powerful, and so, so worthy of approval
  • How to trade depletion, obligation, overwork, and resentment for gratitude-filled, passionate contribution to our families, communities, and society
  • Why a woman's sensual awareness is critical for her spiritual, intellectual, and emotional health
  • What's ahead on the next frontier of feminism - and how you can help make it happen
  • And oh, so much, much more

This provocative, groundbreaking book brings forth a whole new paradigm for women along with game-changing tools and practices to navigate any area of your life - relationships, career, body, confidence, sensuality, and more.

By turns earthy and erudite, passionately argued and laugh-out-loud funny, Pussy delivers the tools and practices a woman requires to do and be whatever she wants in this life. It's a call for her to tune in, turn on, and not drop out - but live more richly, fully, and lusciously than she ever thought she could.

There's a revolution afoot, and you're invited.

Utter drivel

Plus, extremely offensive to anyone who doesn't fit into the author's idea of womanhood. To say I didn't like this book is a massive understatement. I found myself shouting at my phone while I listened to it. Full of generalisations, stereotypes, and harmful cliches. It's supposed to be revolutionary, and to me it felt extremely old-fashioned. It perpetuates the idea that a woman has to be a certain way to be "a true woman". I'm a cisgender woman and even I don't fit into the narrow description of womanhood provided by the author. I cannot see how this book could be helpful, or even an acceptable read for trans women or non-binary people. There are also a lot of concepts which are truly problematic, like seceretly putting your "pussy juice" on your lover's toothbrush. WHAT?! How would you feel if someone did something like that TO YOU?! It's such a violation of trust and BOUNDARIES. Or how courtisans are romantacised and presented as the first suffragettes. Or the author's obsession with material things, especially the luxurious ones. I'm just glad I didn't waste any money on this book (bought it with my credits), otherwise I'd be really raging.

Hippy Trippy Dilight

Where does Pussy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Well, I have quite of variety of kinds of books so it's apples and oranges but I would say that its overall conceptual impactfulness is top 10.

What other book might you compare Pussy to and why?

None, It's unique in my personal library.

Have you listened to any of Regena Thomashauer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Nope, never, but I probably will now, she makes me laugh and think, and then laugh at what I'm thinking about like "did she really just make me take that seriously?"

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, both.

Any additional comments?

I liked the idea of this book but once I started I felt like "what is this hippy trippy sh*t?" I thought I was getting a historical perspective on feminism and female empowerment over the ages and instead I'm getting some tripe about the Goddess? Is this a joke? I'm a nerdy gal most of my books are informational, science, history, psychology, a little philosophy and so on... I was Not expecting this book to hit me with pussy juice marking of territory or sister Goddess Swamping(Akin to group dance therapy), But Actually, this book didn't suck.

What saved it was as I read I felt that although packaged in a way that I would never have gone for myself, this book tells its truth and it is a powerful one.

If you're like me and not super new age'y I would encourage you to look past the wrappings to the meat of this book, When she says "Sister Goddesses" you can think "The Squad" or your "Female Support Team". When she says Learn to be a "Courtesan" Think being your idea of a sexy badass female who is unapologetic about every aspect of herself.

And as the book goes on you may just catch yourself mentally calling yourself a Goddess because why the F*ck not? You are that awesome and WE DO RUN THE WORLD after all... You might find yourself choosing to be your personal ideal woman instead of the patriarchies version of Ladylike. Whatever/whoever your Ideal woman/Self may be, you can bring your Squad along for the laughs, tears, loves and losses, all bringing each other higher in support and love.

That's the message of this book. You are enough and so am I and when we rock out together we are so much more than just Enough and we then have the ability to share that greatness with others making the world a better and more Pussy friendly place.

So I recommend letting this book make you feel a little silly, sad, fierce, and fanciful, let it be the Hippy Trippy Delight that I found it to be.

ENJOY!

This is one of the best books I have ever read.

This book has changed my life. I recommended it to 7 of my closest sisters and friends before the book was even over. I want to give this book to every woman in the world. The emotions I feel are indescribable. I want to live this truth every day until the day I am dead and in the ground. If I recommend any book to anyone, it is this book. The passion that it inspires in me is incredible. I am so glad I found this book and I will give it to every woman I know.

Just listen to it, this book could save the world.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Just listen to it, this book could save the world. Sounds crazy -- and it took me a year of badgering by a friend to FINALLY get me to read it -- after I overcame my own limitations and social programming I listened to this book on a road trip to Key West - and cried for 9 hours. I had to pull over and stop to breathe it was THAT powerful. This book will awaken you to many things that you have forgotten, and teach you many things that you will never learn any place else. Bottom line - you can't cut yourself off from ANY part of your being and expect to have a full life full of love. If you don't read this book for yourself - read it for your daughters and sons.

What other book might you compare Pussy to and why?

it stands alone

If you could give Pussy a new subtitle, what would it be?

Self love will heal the world

Any additional comments?

Just do it.

Woman... Listen... Be Heard and Fulfilled

This is by far the most rewarding piece I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I will be purchasing a hard copy and buying the audiobook on iBooks. All of my research in self help and spirituality, from sacred geometry, to The Healing Love of the Tao, to Kemetic science, to witchcraft, to meditation, to reiki and everything in between... THIS is the culmination of it all. This is where it all begins and it all ends. This should be the necessary coming of age passage for ALL women.

perhaps get the book?

loved the content, but on audiobook the flow of the topics wasn't very fluid. I felt like the subjects jumped in a nonsensical manner. perhaps one would get more out of it if they got the book & could highlight & reference good points. Mama Gena is an excellent narrator. Will be listening to this again for sure.

EVERY Woman needs to read/ hear this book!

Blown away. I cried my "truth tears" at the gym, in line at the DMV, on the beach and all over my home listening to this book. Mama Gena hits the very core essence of what the planet needs most right now to heal through the reclamation of pleasure, radiance and wholeness. I've been recommending this to everyone from my mother to the cute cashier at WholeFoods!

Not for this Sister Goddess ☝️

I am all about the concept, the description had me pumped up to dive in. I'm not uptight or prudish in the least, in fact I'm pretty sexually liberated . I don't get uncomfortable from riske words and I have no problem talking about sex, to pretty much anyone. I'm really into empowerment and loving yourself right now so I thought this was going to be my new Bible. Wrong Wrong Wrong! listening to this was just akward , uncomfortable, and frankly a little annoying. I feel like the person who needs this book wouldn't be able to listen to that comfortably and the person who can handle the sexual undercurrent and in your face doesn't need it. Maybe I'm just too unenlightened or I was too impatient to get to the good stuff but it was rough going getting as far as I did through the first few chapters. I felt like I was getting unsolicited sex education from a drunk middle aged yoga instructor tor at last call in the worst bar ever. I'm sorry you be so negative, not my style, this reaction was just extreme. now read the deception, and reviews. make an informed decision based on your own style, I can definitely see ladies who would be moved by this, so don't let me discourage.
