 १९६३ साली 'पूर्वरंग'ची पहिली आवृत्ती प्रसिध्द झाली. तिसर्‍या आवृत्तीच्या निमित्ताने माझे हे पुस्तक वाचताना वाटले की पुन्हा एकदा ह्या देशांतून हिंडून यावे. ज्या स्थळांची मनावर त्या काळी उमटलेली चित्रे आजही ताजी आहेत ती स्थळे पुन्हा एकदा पाहून यावे. पण असेही वाटले की न जाणो मनावर उमटलेली त्या काळातली चित्रे आणि बदललेल्या परिस्थितीत आज ती ठिकाणे ज्या स्वरूपात उभी आहेत ती चित्रे जर एकमेकांशी जुळली नाहीत तर उगीचच खंत वाटेल. ती ठिकाणे बदलली तसा गेल्या पंधरा-सोळा वर्षांच्या काळात मीही बदललो असणार. आज ही ठिकाणे पाहणार्‍यांना माझ्या पुस्तकातून येणारा प्रत्यय प्रत्यक्षात येणारही नाही कदाचित ! पण त्याला इलाज नसतो. म्हणून त्या काळी पाहिलेले ते ते देश, ती ती स्थळे आणि तिथे भेटलेली माणसे ह्या पुस्तकात तशीच राहू देणे चांगले असे मला वाटते. असो.©2023 Storyside IN (P)2023 Storyside IN Classics Social Sciences
