About this listen

Punk’s War reveals the inner workings of the US Navy as only an insider can. An authentic and riveting thriller, it is a highly acclaimed novel of a fighter pilot’s experience in the era just before 9/11. As the US military enters another postconflict period, the themes of leadership during crisis and accomplishing the mission make Punk’s War more relevant than ever.

Having become a fan of Ward’s YouTube channel i thought I would have a listen and it didn’t disappoint thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish and look forward to the other books on the line.

With Ward being an f14 Rio it was fantastic to have such a great insight into carrier operations particularly F14s from someone who has actually been there and done it.

Give it a listen!

Written by a retired Tomcat back seater (RIO) who now presents a YouTube channel, this is an engaging listen, written with humour and accuracy about Naval operations.
It's a perfect listen for a drive or relaxing when you get a few minutes. to yourself.
Ward Carroll has written for the Navy and this comes through. This is his first novel and it'll be interesting to see how the characters and writing style develops over the four books in the series.

Good characters and enjoyable plot

None of the idealised blockbuster drama here, it's full of really well written imperfect characters, frustration with the boss and bureaucracy, and the monotony between the exciting moments we usually see. Don't get me wrong, it's also a great story, but along with that it really gives a sense of what flying Navy might really be like - the everyday life side. Really enjoyed it!

It's so real

I don't know if this is a true story or not but it was un-put-downable, one afternoon job, freebie as well, will have to get the next one now.
