About this listen

My name is Teddy O'Connor, and I just made a terrible mistake. It's been six years since I was an intern for the Jacksonville Rays NHL team. And it's been six long years since I first met him. Henrik Karlsson, star forward of the Rays...and king of my heart.

I'm a doctor now, a respected professional in my field. And Henrik doesn't even know I exist. So, you tell me why I'm risking everything to follow this man halfway around the world!

After receiving news of his sister's tragic death, Henrik must fly to Sweden to retrieve his young niece. She's injured and grieving, but a new hockey season is about to start. Henrik can't possibly care for her alone. In fact, the Swedish government won't let him. I'd be heartless not to help...right?

Well, that's what I told myself last week as I signed our Swedish marriage license. And it's what I'm telling myself now as the Rays PR Director stares us down. They want this marriage to look real. The team's public image, our jobs, and his niece's custody agreement all depend on it.

But my problem isn't that I don't love my new fake husband. God help me, my problem is that I do.

Contains mature themes.

i was so looking forward to this book i think ill try again on paperback as i think i was drowning out some of the story because of the accent

teddy narrative was an easier listen

not my favourite book in the series but I think I'll have to read rather than listen to enjoy the story

…please save the ears and buy the paperback. Henrick’s accent is like a mix of German, Irish, Welsh and British Brummy at times too. I couldn’t finish it and had to switch to the paperback. Such a let down for the rest of the series, that I would listen to over and over again.

Love this series, BUT…

I wish I I had read the reviews before buying this audiobook because Tor's Swedish accent is so so bad and makes the book unbearable to listen to. It's a strange mix of Irish, Scottish, Indian and Jamaican but with no inflictions so the dullest versions of these accents. He also sounded like he was reading the lyrics to a song instead of normal speech, the lilting drove me crazy.

I couldn't take the spicy scenes seriously with that accent but I did notice that the longer spicy scenes were read by Diontae so there was that saving grace. Diontae did a fabulous job when voicing both main characters. He especially brought Teddy to life.

Teddy is a great character, chaotic and full of life. I can tell that Emily put in a lot of time and effort to have the intricacies of having a black character be correct, which I appreciated. I did have to give out to him a few times at the beginning of the book because he kept forgetting that it's a fake marriage and getting mad at, or feeling hurt by Hendrick for not treating him like his actual husband. The dynamic with Caro was a delight to listen to. One day I'll read the book so I can get a different perspective to Hendrick's character. I just suffered through his chapters, the accent muted and dulled him and also made sound like he was a 50 year old man in comparison to Teddy's vibrancy.

Ruined by Swedish accent

I was among the many eagerly anticipating Pucking Strong after the tantalising teaser at the end of Pucking Sweet. The story itself is rich with emotion and depth, delivering a compelling continuation of the Rays universe that fans will appreciate.

However, the listening experience was unfortunately marred by one of the narrators attempt at a Swedish accent. While I understand the intention to bring authenticity to the character, it raised questions about the audition process, are narrators thoroughly vetted for accent work, or simply trusted to deliver? The accent was distracting enough that I found myself wishing I had opted to read the book instead.

Despite this, I remained engaged thanks to the strength of the story. I pre-ordered the audiobook and there was no audio preview available beforehand, having enjoyed the rest of the series in audio format I trusted the process. If you're considering this title, I’d recommend listening with caution - or perhaps choosing the print version if accents are a sticking point for you.

Amazing story spoilt by one part of the narration

I had so much anticipation for this book! I’ve listened to all others in this series multiple times but the narration, especially Hendrick just ruined the story. I almost dnf’d multiple times and ended up listening at 1.5 speed to get it over with

Awful narration
