'I Must Stand Up for Myself More', promises Maggie Storm, who spends her days cleaning houses for people who often have more money than manners. Married to a man with as much sex appeal as Mr Blobby, she dreams of a life straight from the pages of a romantic novel.

'My Head Must Rule Over My Heart', promises Ella Moore, who, determined never to let her heart get the better of her again, is recovering from seven wasted years of failing to win over the daughter of the man with whom she wanted to spend the rest of her life.

'No More Women', promises Ethan Edwards, who, to distract himself from the depressing sham of his marriage, is a repeat offender when it comes to turning to other women for sexual consolation. But when Ella appears unexpectedly in his life, he finds himself turning to her for very different reasons...

“Poignant with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.” HEAT

"James is a seasoned champion of the genre...Promises, Promises has an extraordinary deftness of touch, coupled with some searing insights into both how relationships fail, and can work." DAILY MIRROR

Beautiful story, so well written. Have followed Erica since her first book, used to live at the bottom of her garden!! Her stories and writing have improved so much and now can’t stop listening to her books! Very ‘readable’.

Made me laugh and cry. Loved it.

I am a great fan of Erica James normally but this book was not, in my opinion, one of her best? Slow to start and all a bit predictable. So many characters I was impatient with - I mean, who would tolerate all that nonsense without saying something?? I stuck with it but would not rate it as highly as mostbof her books.

Okay, got better...

The narrator was easy to listen to and told the story well.
Unfortunately the story itself was uninteresting. Mostly weak characters who were self-seeking and ready to sacrifice their marriages for a more attractive life.

Boring

True to life story Exquisite phrasing and descriptive use of language Oh and of course a happy ending

Thoroughly enjoyable read

The story took a long time to really get going and was a bit boring until it all started to pick up pace and come together towards the end. I don’t think this was helped by the narrator who sounded like she was overacting and her voice didn’t lend itself to doing all the different characters.

Not the best
