About this listen

St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696 - 1787) was an Italian bishop famous for his moral teaching. Initially, he practiced law, but was drawn to the religious life and became a priest in the Catholic church. He ministered as a missionary to the poor, setting up "evening chapels". He would later form his own congregation and then be appointed as bishop. He wrote many famous sermons, meditations, and ascetical works. His meditations are still used today for the stations of the cross during Lent.

This particular book offers a sobering insight into the inevitable prospect of death. A timeless classic that will help any Christian take their life and faith more seriously with an eye to their end.

I am very happy with this! The saying about not judging a book my it's cover is wrong at last. I'm not Catholic but this audiobook is absolutely brilliant. Short meditations (called considerations in the book) on life in inspired prose. The consideration on Hell is excellent. Maybe the passion displayed by this kindly Saint in his writing on Hell, with the quotes on scripture, is what inspired the Gnostics and Marcion to call the God of the old Testament the Evil One? St Alphonsus Liguori, to his credit isn't so crude as I. Or maybe the part on Hell are a snide comment on the Catholic hierarchy? The history of the Pope's needs no intro.

The voice reader is inspired too. Overal a happy buy!
