Summary

The Hunt Begins…

Two men are responsible for the death of Hector Cross’ wife and only one is left alive: Johnny Congo – psychopath, extortionist, murderer, and the bane of Cross’s life. He caught him before and let him go. Now, Hector wants him dead. So does the US government.

Congo is locked up on Death Row in the most secure prison in the free world, counting down the days until his execution. He’s got two weeks. He wants out. He’s escaped before and knows he can again, and with whizz kid D’Shonn Brown enlisted, he might just have a chance.

Cross, still licking his wounds from his last bruising encounter with Congo, is back and ready for work. In the middle of the rough Atlantic stands oil supertanker Bannock A. Terrorist activity in the area has triggered panic and there’s only one person they can trust to protect her.

What is promised as a cakewalk turns out to be much more, a mission that will test Cross to his emotional and physical limits. But a life spent in the SAS and private security has left Cross hard-wired for pain and as he is thrown into the bull pit once more, he will not stop until he has snared his prey. Hector Cross is Predator.

Usual Smith

I felt the accents were a bit ropey and inconsistent at times, and the plot had a few deus ex machina bits that it could have done without

Cut short completely ruined the story

Wilbur isn't what he used to be is he. This book was unfortunately predictable, blatantly cut short just when plots were reaching their crescendo and written with no military knoweldge at all. most of the facts were literally word for word from wikipedia. Load of old tosh and a waste of a credit.

Such a shame ...

..that one of the best adventure story writers has come to this. I gave up after chapter 5. The plot was weak, the language unhelpful and sometimes offensive and the narration.... I couldn't bear the ridiculous accents and voices which were distracting and, indeed, some of which were completely incomprehensible to me. I would prefer the narrator to just read the book without the 'acting'. I'm going to return it.

Nice finish to the trilogy. Excellent

The majority of it was superb and I thought bits were complicated but in the end. I would definitely recommend A1

Another great book

Loved the narration of this book. It went hand in glove with the plot. The best HEctor CRoss yet.

Good listen

Wilbur smith is always worth a rad and I personally think the cross series is the best so it was good to have this third book. If you want a good adventure then give this a go.

Not what I expected

Okay I think we all, when we read a book, have a "voice" in our head when it comes to th characters talking. Or at least picture someone. Well .... when the audio came for some of the characters, the "acting" voice was awful as were the accents, so fake. It totally ruined the story. I eventually opted for Text to Speech on my app. Now the main reading of the story via audible was great, it was just the voices. I have purchased another audible for Wilbur Smith book and will see what tht is like. If I find it th same, then it will be goodbye to Audible, unless it is a book with no speaking parts!

Excellent voice characterisations

Story not up to WS’s early work. Plot and characters were one cliché after another.
Excellently read though.

Doesn't rate along side the previous 2 in series

This book starts so slowly and recapping areas that happened in the previous two books. Not interestingly either - the first hour or two just provide detail that you will pretty much will have guessed.

Parts of the book make you doubt Wilbur Smith's involvement in the detail, it's more like a 2nd rate adventure novel.

Towards the middle of the book the story improves somewhat but with several glaring stereotypes and plot lines.

The end... predictable and dull.

Well read by Ben Onwukwe, lots of accents and characters to provide and he does so in an excellent manner.
