Summary

Escape the grip of drama and take control of your life.

The Power of TED* (*The Empowerment Dynamic) is a fable on self-leadership, because how you lead your own life has everything to do with how you lead in other areas. It is a tool for both individuals and organizations who want to create more effective communication and relationships. Learning how to transform everyday drama and opt for more growth-oriented solutions, is the priceless gift it teaches.

As you walk with David, the main character, he shares how he is feeling victimized by life. Through serendipity he meets some wise guides, Ted and Sophia, who show David how he can move from feeling like a victim to being a creator of his own life.

The Power of TED* offers a powerful alternative to the Karpman Drama Triangle with its roles of victim, persecutor, and rescuer. The Empowerment Dynamic (TED) provides the antidote roles of creator, challenger, and coach - and a more positive approach to life's challenges.

The teaching story provides a guide for learning and growing through the challenges we all face in our lives. Its message resonates with everyone who, at some time in their lives, feel victimized by their situation.

Having helped thousands of people and scores of organizations over the past decade, The Power of TED* (*The Empowerment Dynamic) is being published in this 10th Anniversary Edition to convey a very timely message of hope that all of life, whether at home or work, can be transformed to create satisfying and fulfilling relationships.

Its message is needed now more than ever.

The 10th Anniversary Edition retains the powerful leadership story and adds three new sections:

1. A new Foreword by Lisa Lahey, Ed D, Harvard Graduate School of Education

2. New Study Questions for the Journey

3. A new Preface by the Author

Odd Fable

If you are into fables this book may be up your alley, but for me the story was bit too much fluff without enough actual content. The actual concepts the book does provide though are useful but I would just prefer a more concise story line.

Obvious analogies - odd story

You really only need the part at the end, and even then those are extremely obvious sound bites about how to deal with situations. Unless you are in a fog, hopefully you can see when you are becoming or making yourself a victim and then take steps to change or leave the situation.
The beach story and random characters were just a vessel to deliver these talking points. Reminded me of The Go Giver. Not my style.

Effective and easy to digest

I love learning this way, through story. It’s a bit cheesy and gets the job done. It’s pretty much THE concept to heal all human suffering and it’s TIME

Waste of time and money

It’s insulting to one’s intelligence to be asked to believe the “plot” of the story. This book could have been a handful of pages of less than 10 minutes. Full of fluff. No content!

Once you know you can’t un-know

Having read (many years ago) and now listened to The Power of TED* we come back to the relevance and affect the knowledge David shares as that which once you know you can’t un-know any of it. Recognizing how the DDT roles manifest for each of us and knowing we have a choice in the roles we choose to play(especially the empowerment roles) in our lives is more than liberating - it’s life changing.

The application to life and work is profound - with the rapid pace of change, innovation, and at times tumult in each of our lives - knowing more about and practicing our power of choice everyday is a venture worth investing in.

Every person we have suggested the Power of TED* to has benefited from this wonderful work in some way. Thank you David and Donna for your contributions to making the world a better place.
