Summary

Yesterday, he had it all: a beautiful woman at his side, more money than he knew what to do with, and a real shot at the Oval Office. Today, he's a murderer. Yesterday, she was America's sweetheart: the wholesome first daughter of a beloved former president, a rising star without so much as a whisper of a scandal attached to her name. Today, she's an accomplice.

Vanessa doesn't know why these words flew out of her mouth when Charles is accused of murdering his wife in cold blood, but she's said them, and she isn't taking them back.

"He was with me all night."

Power Games is unsuitable for sensitive listeners.

What a wonderful exciting new book!

Power Games by May Sage
Narrated by Sebastian York and Virginia Rose
Five Stars
This is the first book I have listened to by May Sage, but definitely won’t be the last. Power Games is a fast paced political love story, where you can never decide who is telling the truth. I loved how it kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen until the very end. Sebastian and Virginia really brought the characters to life and their voice blended well together. This whole reading/listening experience was a delight. I’m looking forward to listening/reading to more of Ms. Sage’s books in the future.

Great Listen

Charles is happy in his loveless marriage until he meets Vanessa. She is everything his wife is not and what he thinks he wants. They keep in contact and don't want to cross the lines. That is until his wife is murdered and Vanessa lies to save him. This book is full of political games and suspense. Great story. Great Narration.

a good listen

not normally into political reads but this was a good story, the characters were great and well written and the narration was perfect, I felt the story got more interesting towards the end, but without the back story at the start it wouldn't have made any sense so it's worth it in the long run
really enjoyed it in audio and would recommend listening to it

Exciting story with excellent narration

This was a story of two halves for me, the first half was a bit slow and I got upset with Charles for not being more decisive about his awful relationship with his wife. I felt for Vanessa so much and it was painful listening to them meeting up over the years and knowing she was saving herself. I also felt I was waiting in the first half for the big 'something' to happen, I think it would have been better if this had been a bit earlier in the story as I would have like more of the 'after' story. I loved Charles and Vanessa once this happened and the way they got it together and Charles trusted Vanessa even after everything. The last hour was brilliant and this is what I would like more of if there's another book which I would love and definitely buy as I want to hear more about these characters and this world! The narration was amazing and added so much to the story and the angst of the characters.

thoroughly enjoyable.

I enjoyed listening to this book. Sebastian York and Virginia Rose really made it work for me. I have not read/listened to anything by this author before. But I am looking forward to more from her. I liked Vanessa and Charles, and enjoyed immersing myself into their world for a little bit.

A great political thriller

This story is nothing like I thought it was gonna be I thought it would be more about the murder of Charles wife but it was so much more than that. I felt sad that Charles and his wife had such a bad marriage but did nothing to solve the problems they were so bad for each other. So when Charles meets Vanessa you could feel the sparks. It was a shame and a waste of time that it took them so long to do something about their situation but I could understand that running for president any scandal can be used against you. This had so much great story telling even being from the UK I did not get lost with all the US politics. It had plenty of twists and turns and kept me very entertained.

The narration was fantastic loved the duet style my first with Sebastian York and him and Virginia Rose did a great job keeping the story flowing.

I hope the next book comes out soon and I enjoyed this one so much and need more.x

Suspenseful romance

This book is a rollercoaster ride of longing, romance, political games and suspense. Although there were several times I just wanted to shake and strangle these characters, I thought this was a good story. The dual narration really added to my enjoyment of the book. The narrators did an awesome job with these characters.

Loved it!

Yesterday, he had it all, a beautiful woman at his side, more money than he knew what to do with, and a real shot at the Oval Office.
Today, he's a murderer.

Yesterday, she was America's sweetheart; the wholesome first daughter of a beloved former president, a rising star without so much as a whisper of a scandal attached to her name.
Today, she's an accomplice.

Vanessa doesn't know why these words flew out of her mouth when Charles is accused of murdering his wife in cold blood, but she's said them, and she isn't taking them back.

"He was with me all night."

So that book has been a emotional roller coaster that I would not change for anything in the world. This book is not typical. It was well written and I loved these characters. This book was totally yummy! Love It! This was my first book by May Sage but it definitely won't be my last.

Sebastian York and Virginia Rose did an outstanding job of bringing this book to life for me!

Fast paced full of twists

This was a quick book that was a fast paced book full of twists and turns. I am a huge fan of political thrillers and also alpha males. This book had a little mix of both. I hope she comes out with the next book. I want to know what happens during the White House. As alway Seb yo did amazing, and Virginia Rose met him stride for stride. May Sage is an amazing writer.

A Great duet performance!

I love a duet performance in audiobooks and I really love when it is delivered by sexy gravelly voice Sebastian York! His delivery along with Virginia Roses' narration made this audiobook worth listening to in and of itself.

This story is fast paced and full of suspense. Games are afoot and not all the true players are revealed until the very end. But their is much at stake in this revolving power struggle and winner takes all. Amidst love, death and political games a romance waits in the wings but someone wants to play power games and threaten the lover's HEA.

This was a nice listen especially if you love a duet like I do.

Nice. Just wow!

I really loved. I have only read one other book from this author and it was a little bdsm, so I didn’t know what to expect. Reviewing authors other titles in the audible library, I was skeptical, but I like these narrators, the summary was up my ally, so I gave it a shot. No regrets. It was political, suspenseful, charming, sexy, and had a few twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. The way it was going I thought for sure we were headed for a ...to be continued, but to my delight was wrapped up in a nice HEA bow and some LOL humor. Narration was top notch per usual from these two narrators. I highly recommend.

Great narration

The performance was excellent and what you'd expect from Sebastian York and Virginia Rose. But the story itself felt a bit drawn out even tough this book is just a little over 6 hours. This might have been because the story spans over several years.

But my main gripe with this book is that it didn't go in deep enough. There was just a lot of telling, and as the reader I was just an outside observer. The narrative did not draw me in or gave me the feels. A lot of the initial action was off the page and told in the narrative. So as the reader/listener it left me on the outside of the story.

Standalone Story - possibility of a follow-up

Standalone Story with the possibility of a follow-up.

Vanessa McNamara is the daughter of the beloved President of the United States. Charles Grant is a war hero who heads up Jacobs Enterprises, an organization that flips failing businesses. Nessie is determined to save herself for a husband, but Charles tempts her more than anyone ever has before. She falls for him the moment she sees him. Charles's marriage to Izzy is in name only, and he reluctantly takes lovers outside of their marriage. As the years go by, Charles and Vanessa strike up a friendship that turns into an obsession. When Charles is suspected of Izzy's murder, Vanessa immediately covers for him.

If you're looking for a romance that takes time to mature and a mystery that isn't as obvious as it seems, this is the book for you!

Very powerful

Author is new to me but I liked her writing style. I liked that the two gets to know one any another before anything happens. As for both narrators, I can listen to Sebastian all day and night. Virginia is new to me but she does her part very well.

What a read! Marvelous. Gorgeous. Breathtaking. This book was everything!

Loved every second of this deliciousness. The author really knows how to write a book, capture your attention and take your breath away.

The narrators were perfect. Amazingly perfect. Perfection. Like, that is all I can say because wow. They blew my mind!

Very Intriguing!!

This was a great story! I loved the timeline in which this story took place by spreading the story out over several years it allowed for so much to happen.
Although sex was a big topic, I was very happy that this story focused more on the betrayal and lies etc rather than the actual act of sex.
The narration was amazing!!
I was not fond of the story being the third person though, it confused me at times.
That being said, I loved the story and truly hope there is a book 2 coming.
I recommend this book!

Great story

This was my first experience with duet narration and I loved it. The interwoven voices added a great feature. The narration was top notch as expected (with the exception of several technical errors which should have been caught in review).

The story almost could have been several books. The scenes with the characters were interesting and well written. But then it would skip over huge periods of time, leaving the reader with a summary of all that transpired. I would have much preferred a tighter connection to the events as they happened.

The story still pulled me in through to the end with a sexy and satisfying ending.

Politics, Murder, and Slow Burn Romance

Feedback

I thought this was going to be more of a murder, mystery, thriller novel than what it was. The story was still very interesting but not what I was expecting. The first half of the novel is about Charles and Vanessa's separate life. They met upon accident but still continue to live separately even though they meet up accidentally and then begin a true friendship. While events keep them from being together, each experience can be seen how they are meant to be together. Then Charles' wife ends up murdered and they devise a ploy. This was a heavily political and full of motives. I wish we would have more of the ending and less of the beginning. The ending felt a little rushed. While I appreciated the build up of the relationship, it felt a little redundant after a point. Even though this wasn't as thriller as I was expecting it to be, I really did enjoy the story and it was very intriguing.

I really enjoyed the characters. Charles was a very easy character to get behind. He seemed like a genuinely good guy who could truly make a difference in the world. His smart and caring ways really helped him build up his character. Vanessa was smart and very cunning, but in a good way. She refused to be drawn into her family's history of politics and forged her own path. One of the aspects I really liked about Vanessa was how she stayed true to her values, especially in the Hollywood spotlight. It was refreshing to see two characters who really held themselves in high regards without being arrogant.

**AUDIO REVIEW*
NOTE: The narration does not affect my review of the actual book

I loved this narration. It was a duel narration where Sebastian and Virginia truly nailed it. It really helped create the narrative and was very easy to follow. They did a great job in portraying the characters and giving the different characters each their own unique voice. The duel narration felt right and the transitions were done perfectly.
