Summary

Mary Jane, a struggling comedienne, stumbled into the wrong club at the wrong time. She didn't notice the gangster gripping the gun and the two scary men on his sides. She just jumped on the stage, tested the microphone, and went into her routine. And that's where things got interesting.

Noah was the gangster that gripped the gun. The beast of Din City. The boss of the streets. The one who ruled them all from the North to the South. Not liking to murder women, he'd now been thrown into an uncomfortable situation. She'd accidentally become a witness to something she shouldn't have seen. She'd now become a problem.

Yet, their gazes met, and their hearts faltered, thump, thumping in their chest like a tune beat out from bullets slicing through the air and bodies crashing to the ground. Their gazes met, and things would never be the same for him or her - or the streets. Their gazes met, and he decided not to kill her; instead, he took her on a journey where sex meets the rhythm of the streets, high to low, smooth to rough, growing inside of them both until they're not sure if any of them will survive - him, her, or those bloody streets.

Clever dark romance

More than a typical love affair, this is an IR story with elements of the supernatural.

The characters are well developed with believable traits and back stories.

The quotes at the start of each paragraph demonstrates the author’s research and sets the stage beautifully.

Genuinely one of the best books in the genre.
The 2 narrators are excellent.

Crazy, funny, and HAWT!

Love the story and characters! None irritated and the plot kept a steady place. I listened to the whole book in just over 25 hours! The relationship between Noah and MJ was beautiful as was the change in Noah. This book has everything: love, humor, gangsters, sex, and even some supernatural elements. Kevin T. Collins is one of my favorite narrators ( he also narrated my audible series six years ago!). I love his voice, accents, and the distinction he makes between characters. One downside of the book was Ms. Cochrane’s narration. The quality itself was not that great (she sounds far away every chapters she narrates). She makes no distinction between Noah and MJ so I had to listen closely to make sure I remembered who was talking. I dreaded her chapters but that book was so funny and action packed, it was easy to get through it. I probably would have preferred Kevin to read all of it. Worth a credit? Definitely! I’m probably going to stay from anything read by Ms. Cochrane through.

I love the Power book

I love this book.. I have read it at least four times.. but I’m going on vacation and I thought why not get the audio so I can listen on the plane. Bad idea.. my own internal voice is so much better then these Narrated voices.. the book is well written but these Narraters did not capture the characters AT ALL the voices suck. And I never write reviews but Noah’s voice should be deeper and more street like.. this voice is so proper and so close to MJ’s voice I have a hard time telling who is speaking at times. This was a waste of my credit. Sorry but it was.

Couldn't finish

I can see why the audiobook summary said the main character girl is a struggling comedian .. she was not funny. And also didn't act very believably in the situation. Granted, I got fed up within the first hour so maybe the book could have redeemed itself, but not worth the wait.

Different

The second time was the charm. This type of story is not my usual choice but because I'm not into gangsters but because of the author I had to try again. When I did I was so very pleased..... this book has humor which is great considering the story. I loved the chemistry between the characters Noah and MJ(My gangster poo:) ) Fuji, 305, Crusher and even Mohawk . I don't know about Aristotle. The sex was hot and it was so sexy to me when Noah kept looking at the pic Harold sent the last time when he caught his lip between his teeth, omg. I will never forget how Butterfly went out..Noah was diabolical!..305 driving Noah into the ebony forest with the cannibals , or that haunted house!!! . The part when she tells the haunted house jokes and how 305 responded was funny. Great book...I will listen again AND I hope there is another story coming from Harmony and Crusher.

Funny & Sexy are great combos!

Such a refreshingly original take on a story. I didn't expect this to be so funny and sexy, since it continues to maintain a believable dark element with the gang culture stuff involved. Kevin T Collins is spectacular with changing voices and when he does Mary Jane, he just has me dying; his performance is flawless without a shameless attempt to dumb down the language for this genre. Very good intro to this voice actor. I wish this had a book 2, hoping against hope since it does say book 1, but who knows with that.

Ok read

Ok, read I guess. Some parts were confusing like, at the beginnings o f the book Noah stated that him and Butterfly sleep together when they were younger. In chapter 21 he said that he slept with Butterfly more than the others, which is why people thought he was in love with her. I loved all of the man guys, Crusher, Fuji, etc. Would've love to know Mo's story. I can honestly say that I couldn't stand Mary Jane. I know she was only 21 , but her character was to childish and immature for me. I've always so notice in the few books that I've read from Kenya, she seems to have immature and childish female characters in her storylines. That's the only issue I have with her books so far. Noah was bae though. Not sure if I will read or listen to book 2.

This is now my new favorite book by Kenya!

I really liked Redemption but the action in this book is awesome and the love scenes made me blush, stop listening, catch my breath, gather my composure, and then press play again. Loved every minute!

An Unbelievable Mix of Romance, Horror and Magic!

Hands down, this book is THE BEST book I've ever heard from Kenya Wright.
At first I thought the plot was going to fast, then I realized this book had so many layers. The plot took me here and there! I can't stop gasping and swooning .

The only thing that was off was the female narrator. Her performance was great, but the recording equipment she used was trash. Very distracting.

But overall, I can say without a single doubt that this is my favorite book. Period.

If you enjoy incredibly sensual story telling, mixed with amazingly developed characters and a gripping plot, PLEASE READ

Below Average

This book was a C- the premise is stupid..SPOILERS.....female aspiring comedian somehow barges into a closed club owned by the underboss of the entire city during a n execution and there’s only one fat guard for the whole club, and jumps on stage thinking she’s going to audition for a comedy spot and it all goes down hill from there most unrealistic plot she’s ever written. So many rolling my eyes moments.
