‘I never once attended a Sunday morning church service in Stanford. There was always the feeling that they weren’t aimed at families like ours.’ Pam Ayres was the sixth child in a hard-up family who lived in a council house, her parents’ generation were harrowed by the war. Yet they lived by the green in the village of Stanford in the Vale, where everything you needed was within walking distance and the sound of motorcars was rarely heard.

Barney and Cathy. Evan and Fiona. David and Alice. Three couples who have beaten the odds and stayed married - but is that simply because they haven’t got around to divorcing yet? In these three series, we follow this group of friends throughout weekends away and tricky date nights, weddings and funerals, Christmas celebrations and counselling sessions - all of which give them plenty of opportunity for flirting, fighting, competitiveness and reprehensible behaviour. We listen in to their innermost thoughts, feelings and motivations as they break the fourth wall.

A Potted laugh a minute
Antoher great radio comedy.
At times almost predictable but always funny. The (mis)adventures of running a small garden nursery are captured here. The charcaters are so well played (casting is superb). If You want a gentle humour that will cause no offence but leave you crying with laughter this is it!
The only down side to this is there is no second volume and there shoud be!

Potting on
Oh dear, if you like an endless stream of sarcasm interspersed by 1970s humour its for you! This is only lifted by Pam Ayres normal brilliant delivery and i think Pam does more for the book than it does for her. Sadly it doesn’t allow for Pams usual Kind consideration and insight into human nature and the humour that brings.

Fabulous!!
Would you consider the audio edition of Potting On to be better than the print version?
Defiantly because you have to hear Pam's accent as that's what her stories are about, her life growing up.
What did you like best about this story?
Pam , she is incredible so talented and a superb entertainer
Have you listened to any of Pam Ayres and Geoffrey Whitehead ’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have got them all, I wish there was more, they are just so superb and timeless and complement each other so so well
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The wedding episode, I laughed so much!
Any additional comments?
Pam & Geoffrey we need more pleased I have listen to all available time & time again coz they are so well done, relaxing, funny and a pure joy.

A Great Way to Spend Time in the Garden
If you could sum up Potting On in three words, what would they be?
Delightful, Good Natured, Easy
What did you like best about this story?
The characters were all quite different which helped create entertaining conflict without being mean spirited or negative. The stories were accessible, everyday ordeals that would try anyone but with the lovely addition of great humor.
What does Pam Ayres and Geoffrey Whitehead bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The accents are so much fun for me as an American. They sound like a working class woman and an upper class man which is a delightful additional counterpoint to their personalities; She is hard working and fun loving while he is lazy and self adsorbed. They obviously love each other, though, which makes it much easier to laugh at them.
Any additional comments?
I hope Audible will add additional series of Potting On soon.
