Summary

Pollyanna, an expert at her favorite "Glad Game" of always looking at the bright side in her numerous trials, is one of the most popular and enduring characters in all of children's literature.

As Pollyanna arrives in Beldingsville to live with her strict and dutiful maiden aunt, she exclaims, "Oh, Aunt Polly, I don't know how to be glad enough that you let me come to live with you!" And from this point she begins to bring cheer into everybody's life, including the sick, the lonely, and the just plain miserable. All are transformed until one day when something so terrible happens that even Pollyanna doesn't know how to feel glad anymore.

Such an uplifting story.

Such an uplifting story. I heard it many times growing up and have recently rediscovered it. This is a wonderful reading of it.

How GLAD I am!

How glad I am to have listened to this book!
I read it many, many years ago and was curious how I will like it now.
I was surprised that being 56 I was smiling and laughing most of the time and crying for the last hour (very inconvenient as I was driving 🙂).
My “glad game” has also improved since I revisited this book.
Listen to it and you will be glad, too!

Adorable Christian children's story

I wasn't familiar with the Ladies Aid and had to look it up. So, that's something to bear in mind if you're not American and nor is your child. You may find yourself explaining one or two things that are no longer common knowledge too. But, the core of the message never grows old. I can see myself playing the 'glad game' after this.

I liked how the book wasn't afraid to talk about the bickering, and other negatives, that can be found in church settings. How what Christians are called to do and what they actually do might be very different things. All of this seen through the eyes of a good-natured little girl. I think this is a good listen for adults too as there's quite a bit of pathos that will go over a child's head.

A classic

Although supposedly a child's book, I have much enjoyed this as an adult. Recommended.

Suspenseful!

I checked several other narrators narrating this specific story and yet, couldn't find anyone who narrated better than S.Patricia Bailey. There were several characters in this book and she made sure that all the characters had their own distinct voices, either by increasing the pace at which they talked or by changing their tone and softness. The fact that the Author of this story gave her characters their own unique way of talking made me understand those characters much better while I listened. The story was suspenseful from beginning to end and I couldn't help but listen to it whenever I could catch a minute. I'd recommend this story to anyone who'd like to have a positive perspective in life and see the world from a n innocent child's point of view. Simply amazing it is.

a hopeful comforting listen.

A great classic, well read with a life ethos Ive lived by since I first heard it as a child. If only everyone played the glad game...

pollyanna

I enjoyed this book. The only fault i found was that, the voice of the young were old. which spoilt it a little. It would be difficult to make it any other way
