Summary

From the age of 14, Caitlin was completely controlled, repeatedly raped, provided with alcohol, given drugs, sold and passed on to new gangs over and over again. The majority of her abusers were Pakistani men, who were blatant in their attacks upon her, often collecting her from school or home, to be taken to flats they owned, family homes or hotels booked for the day, to be horrifically and systematically abused.

At a time when the abuse ring realities of young white women in Rotherham and other major English cities are coming to light, Caitlin's story will appal listeners - not just because of the degree of horrific attacks which were perpetrated upon her but also because of the ways in which the authorities refused to act.

Caitlin speaks openly about what she has suffered and also shows just how unwilling many people are to face up to what is happening in our midst, for fear of being called racist. By bravely speaking out, she will hopefully prove just how deep these problems are and just how the abusers get away with it in plain sight of the authorities.

Gutwrenchingly good

This book was one of the hardest I’ve ever listened to or read.
I had to take breaks because the material was so powerful. Any woman whose parents have let them down, who has been raped or had an abortion, who has been part of the UK care system, or lacked self confidence, who has been let down by the education system, self harmed or been a parent, with or without a partner, will find something to identify with in Caitlin.
It’s a painful insight into how grooming happens, and demonstrates clearly the need to protect both children and adults.
It also raises uncomfortable truths about Pakistani grooming gangs, and racism.
If it wasn’t so raw, I’d be suggesting that all teenage girls be required to read it, but at very least those in agencies that failed Caitlin - the police, social services, the health system and the schools - should be reading it to see what happens when they turn a blind eye.
Brilliant, painful, eyeopening reading.

Excellent book, very upsetting in places

Very worrying as it seems to be still happening. A lot of these young girls have no idea what is happening to them at the start. I tried to get proof that the education system was failing them by not informing them of what could happen. In the end my trying to help put me in prison for 2 1/2 years as the police twisted everything and didn’t believe me. So I understand how she felt when they twisted what was happening to her and didn’t support her. The funny thing is, 4 months after I went to prison the education minister stated the their sex education was failed. Exactly what I was trying to get proof off so I could inform them. I just hope Caitlin and her Children are left in peace and those responsible are not only punished but sent back to where they came from.

How..?

How is this story even remotely possible in todays society? I have no word last to explain the heartbreak I felt for Caitlin. As a mother, I would do anything for my children and yet this child didn’t get that.. not from her mother, not from the authorities, not from anyone.
A truly harrowing read but a story that exists the world over.
Thank you Caitlin, for being brave enough to share your story. I hope that now you have only peace and love in your life.

Horrific

So upsetting as it’s true and no one helped her.
Makes you think about the police and the government 😢

So sad

I cried all the way through what this young beautiful girl had been through and obviously not the only one.

There is no justification for this inhumane treatment of any young person.

I apologise but I have such hate for these men

Control

What a horrific story of sexual abuse.
When I listened to it I couldn't help wondering why she didn't just say NO! and call the police. Little knowing that she did call them & they did nothing. Shame on them. The worst of it is, these abusers got away with it and sounds like they will carry on abusing others unless they're caught in the act.

Obviously heartbreaking yet inspiring

This is a great read but my god, a brummie accent reading it with afflictions in all the wrong places. Ruined it for me.
