Summary

Alpha Company is embarking on a grand mission, crossing the Dead Lands to find and conquer Gwain’s Keep. Led by Alburet, most of the guild embarks on what could be an epic and memorable journey, as they aim at being the first Two-souled guild to capture a keep.

Besides safeguarding the members of the guild, Alburet also has to worry about the natives that are with them on their journey. Deidre Crowley, Stacia’s sister, is the one he worries about most, having sworn to see her safely across the lifeless desolation of the Dead Lands.

Having to be ultra-vigilant during the day, night brings welcome relief and relaxation to the raid.

For Alburet, Karen, and Stacia, it also brings their chance to help Fluffball come to grips with her past.

I like a character story as much as the person BUT

Now to start I loved the first 3 novels in the series, but this one...

I like a bit of character background and focus just as much as the next person, so at the start of the novel, it was nice to learn a bit about the characters. The problem is that it never ended. It got to the point when I could skip chapters and miss nothing about the actual story which I enjoyed, instead, I got some well written, but unwanted s&m content that didn't end.

You would expect a story to be at least 80% story and maybe 20% character... not the other way round (if that).

In total very repetitive and boring with the interesting parts being far and few.

What A Shame

Series started well but has got toxic

The toxic male s&m sex fantasy takes up more of the book than the adventure.

Roughly 1 hour of book content

This book is a cash grab. Nothing really happens and it fills up hours wasting on sexual relationships which are getting a bit boring now. Almost 2 minute recap on character sheet of protagonist wastes at least an hour of this book.

Compared to first book, this has about 2-5% amount of content about alpha world and about 10% is back story of characters. Which isn’t terrible but not what I’m listening for.

Won’t get next one sorry. I’m out.

Too focused on erotica

Compared with the previous books in this series, far too much of the story is based on polygamy. Questionable at that, unless later books point out a sinister goal behind the AI programming, because as it stands, more than half of this book is people getting involved in sexual situations immediately after confronting very painful memories. There was very little continuation of plot compared to the previous books, and whilst we do start to get a better understanding of the main characters backgrounds, instead of that being interspersed between plot, it's between rather creepy sexual encounters. The journey to the Keep itself is barely touched upon by comparison, and only the last 2 hours of the book really push anything regarding the world's plot.

I didn't hate it, but the balance in this book was very different to the previous ones, and I have to say, I found the (to me at least) obvious manipulation of people in a vulnerable state to be a little unnerving. More so because there was no hint that it was intentional.

Soft Core Teenage Polyamory

Good performance but this series has devolved into soft core teenage fantasy. 80% of the writing is about sex with 1 male and 3 females and 20% is LitRPG. Avoid this series unless you just want a erotic fantasy novel.

Dont be fooled

This is not a litrpg. This book is 60% cringy, clumsy attempts at erotica, 30% stories about abusive fathers and maybe 10% fantasy adventure. I couldnt finish this one. The "adventure" gets lost completely because it is sprinkled in sparingly in between sessions of daddy issue therapy and some garbage about the protagonist fighting the urge for a foursome.

if you are looking for adventure, go elsewhere

Disappointing

Loved the 1st 3 books. Was really looking forward to listening to the 4th. And what a 4th it was. Less litrpg-more cheesy romance/sex, and that's pretty much it. I will not be finishing this series. Shame on the author for writing this nonsense. And then charging anyone for a book that's 90% Filler.

Frustrating

There is a fun story somewhere in there surrounded by a Texas ranch worth of Bull S....I think I abused the skip button so bad I cracked my phone screen. Technically I finished the whole book, but I probably only listened to 50% of it (the parts where they killed stuff and had an adventure.) I want a refund for the rest. I don't mind the sex or harem stuff, but this confused relationship stuff is a solid miss for me and almost ruined a good story. The narrator was great. I feel bad that he had to read the whole book though. Trim the fat and this is a great 6hr listen for the genre. I like the series overall and hope the next book sticks to the stabby stabby and leaves out the I'm confused about monogamy stuff that's been smothering it since book 3.

phychobabble

Author goes way off into boring phycology, mental health, snore. This slowed down the pace of the whole book with more of that crap then action and adventure. What a total let down this 4th book is. I am done reading any more.

LIT PORN, NOT LITRPG

I'm finally done with this series. The author is obsessed with threesomes in most of his writing. It get so boring and stale. I pretty much fastforwarded most of the book trying to get to the story and not having to listen to the teenie bopper sex fantasy parts. Shame, it could have been a great story, and sadly it's not.

The Worst Book I ever read, What a waste of time..

So, let us break this review into two: First: If you read this book to hear about how fkced up the characters and how that causes them to have sex are and you want Naruto flashbacks on how the people in their lives abused them and scarred them for life... This book is a 5 star pity story of crap that you will eat up. I don't care because that doesn't matter to the story. Second: If You have realized that the sex and the mental problems of the characters are unimportant are that you are just interested in the actual story (I mean this is a "book" and is supposed to have a "story"_ then you might as well skip most of the book. Yeah and when I say that I mean like there less than 2 hours of story in this book. The first 20 chapters (YES 20!!!) are bs sex and flashbacks that nobody cares about. Let me tell you the "story" without the sex and stupid mental bs. They travel in the dead lands, when they break camp each morning they get attacked by undead and sand worms. They over come in easily. That is the first 27 chapters... I kid you not, in the 10 hours of reading in those chapters less than 18 min is the "Story" The rest is badly written sex and mental flashbacks of abusive families that adds nothing to the book. The last 2 hours "ish" is the only thing worth reading. Sorry but this is supposed to be a good book according the ratings not some pity party about how a man who was supposidly raised the right way to treat women is so amazing and rare that he can, with help of his magical succubus, turn all the women in his life into desiring him like the greatest man and sex god on earth (which is justified because the author also made him "broken") and that all you have to do is show how much you care and all the women you want will thrown themselves at you and need you because you can "unbreak them" just by being supportive and a man who is "strong" and he is also everything they want because bad plot holes that have no reason makes everybody like him and give him magical wins of magic. I don't know how anybody got past this book and paid real money for the 5th. It is the WORST BOOK I ever read.

dont do it.

no longer a litrpg. I've literally given 5 stars to everything I've read as I've really enjoyed audibles and the entire litrpg genre this however is not a litrpg anymore this is trash I skipped so much of the same repetitive sex scenes and nonsense memory diving just stop after book 3...at least that was partially decent or skip to chap 35 I guarantee you arnt missing anything.
