Summary

Ex-fashion model and successful business woman Laura Ayars' perfect world is shattered at a time which should have been the happiest of her life.

On her honeymoon, her sports superstar husband goes for a swim - and never returns. But what has happened to David - can he really be dead? Whilst struggling to cope with her almost overwhelming grief, Laura is plagued by questions and doubts. Was it an accident? Or suicide? Or is it some terrible, ill-judged hoax?

As events begin to unfold, Laura starts to question David's mysterious disappearance. She begins to uncover a conspiracy which reaches deep into the past, and is now slowly beginning to destroy everyone involved.

Someone will do anything to keep Laura away from the awful truth - and she has no idea who she can trust....

Worst narration ever.

The narrator was awful. Accents ridiculous. Not the best HC book out there and the constant rambling about the various characters bodies & beauty hasn’t aged well.

Narrator is painful

Not one of Harlan’s best but made, at times, painful to listen to by the narrator. Her attempt at an Ozzie accent was laughable as was her drunken character. I made it to the end but the ending was predictable. Waste of a credit.

Seriously poor narration

A gripping story with multiple twists but the seriously poor narration detracts from the writing. Why portray the female characters with such whining voices? The accents were dreadful: the Australian voices were particularly spectacularly dire.

I enjoyed it, kept me guessing

I agree the Australian accent wasn’t the best but I was entertained. Good who done it

Don't waste your money!

Dated and predictable, not one of his best. The narrator is dire and mangles every accent she attempts.

Nearly gave up with the narrator

The narration is way OTT but then the story is a bit gushy at times too. The “strong women” are anything but, and are more whiney and annoying that assertive and business minded. But I listened to it all, so it can’t have been that bad!

Dire narration

Rather silly story but I did finish. His writing has improved over years but his characters are stock, lacking development.
The worst thing was the utterly awful narration. Shhhh instead of s as in shtrong instead of strong. T instead of d as in olt instead of old. Generally a grating tone and please don’t get me started on the “Oshtraarlian” accent. One of the worst narrators I have ever come across.

Good story but appalling narration.

Honestly, the Australian accent was so bad. Almost made me want to stop listening right away. (And I’m from the UK, not even Aussie). Story was good though, so glad stuck with it.

Not as good as others

I usually really enjoy this authors books but this was far too far fetched and the female characters were portrayed as weak and pathetic which annoyed me
