Summary

When high-school teacher Ken Reed meets a woman suffering from total amnesia who is terrified of getting help, he feels compelled to bring her into his home. He names her Julie and wants nothing more than to keep her protected and safe. But soon her troubling past begins to return in disjointed flashes of horrific memories. And people around Julie start to die.

Is Julie simply the victim of a tragic accident, or did she have a hand in the terrifying events her memories uncover? Who wants Julie dead? And why is she so afraid of the police? Most importantly, what is left for Julie and Ken to hold onto when the past intrudes on the present, piece by terrifying piece?

"Piece by tiny piece, it all fell into place."

A well known T.V. investigative reporter has been found murdered, a woman reports her sister missing two months later, and a terrified woman with no memory of her past or of who and where she is attracts the attention of a school teacher in a park. Against the advice of his friend, Ben takes her home, names her Julie and quickly falls in love.Sent

This is, essentially, a love story, delicately told, with a touch of mystery there to allow it to happen. The mystery is not hard to solve, even early in the book, but it is played out with exciting action and rather gruesome violence. It is definitely a story which calls for a firm suspension of disbelief by the reader but, that done, it is an excellent read.
Narration is performed by Jan Kennedy who has a fairly deep and delicious sounding voice. She reads well, good articulation and the character voices are individually defined, but there is a slightly hesitant, almost mechanical, delivery through the early part of the book but this fades as the story progresses and her overall performance is good, adding to the enjoyment of the book.

My thanks to the rights holder of Piece by Piece, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. This was a gentle, almost feel-good story a blossoming romance interrupted with bursts of violent action The characters are well developed allowing the reader to relate to their situation. It should appeal to readers who like their romance spiked with a frisson of fear
