Summary

'From an early age, locked doors, high fences and the secrets kept by businesses, buildings and people, fascinated me. I wanted to find out what they wanted to hide away.'

A burglar for hire, con-artist and expert in deception and physical infiltration – Jenny Radcliffe is a professional people hacker. After being schooled in the art of breaking and entering by her family, she became an expert social engineer, doing an insider’s job to exploit the flaws and weaknesses in top-grade security operations.

In People Hacker, Jenny reveals how she uses her inimitable blend of psychology, stagecraft and charm to gain access to top-grade private and commercial properties. From the back streets of Liverpool to the City of London's Square Mile, across rooftops, cellars and staircases in Europe to the mansions of gangsters in the Far East, Jenny has risked it all to earn the title ‘People Hacker’.

This is Jenny insider’s account of how her working-class upbringing, northern sense of humour and femininity in a male-dominated industry all helped her to become one of the most sought-after social engineers in the world. Told in her trademark colourful style, and packed full of stories of the crazy and dangerous situations she has found herself in along the way, Jenny shines a light on the security mistakes we all make – and how to avoid them.

A true epic - you will love this!

Why are you still reading? Still need convincing? Ok, fine. So first off - Jenny is a legend, and her stories are a thrilling ride through her real life experiences in a world that few people ever get to do. She is at the top of her game, and has seen and done things that will have you holding your breath with excitement. It’s a cracking listen, and made all the more awesome by the fact that Jenny’s reading it. You will LOVE it, I guarantee it.

Open, interesting and some tense story telling

A great look into an otherwise opaque world of human security. Some wonderful storytelling, and interesting looks at what can happen when companies or individuals are keen to see how vulnerable to others.

Fascinating read

I totally enjoyed every second of this. What a fascinating life Jenny has had. I heard an interview on the Darknet Diaries podcast which inspired me to listen to the book. I was so pleased that Jenny narrated it herself as well, it just gives it that extra feel of authenticity and also, considering that she is not a trained actor (though obviously an experienced presenter and speaker), it's really well performed. I was also really pleased to hear that her story is going to be made into a TV series. I just hope that they stick with her salt of the earth vibe and realism in casting it and don't go down the route of casting a stick-thin glamorous actress to play Jenny. This is definitely a listen I will come back to.

Nice collection of stories from her unique career path

Very interesting collection of some jobs Jenny has endured and a brief history of how she got there. Much of the writing does what it needs to do to have you visualising the (more often than not, mundane office) settings and although Jenny stays calm narrating even when things get tense (stick with her, after the first three or so chapters the reading becomes less awkward), it still has it’s thrilling close calls.

Excellent look into a world that occurs without notice.

Narration and story telling of the author was brilliant. Not my usual type of book, but thoroughly glad I listened to the recommendation of a friend!

interesting and informative

listened to the whole book, and many chapters were really engaging.
The most fascinating element was being able to see the cross linked nature of targeted advertising across all the social platforms.
I could identify adds that were targeted at me because of me listening to this book.
