The Wizard's Council of Tarador was supposed to tell young Koren Bladewell that he is a wizard. They were supposed to tell everyone that he is not a jinx, that all the bad things that happen around him are because he can't control the power inside him, power he doesn't know about. The people of his village, even his parents, are afraid of him, afraid he is cursed. That he is a dangerous, evil jinx.

Summary
After returning home to Lake City for a family emergency, Treace confronts an old foe. Events spiral out of control and a murderer goes on the loose.
Haven prepares for the inevitable war by building defenses and training those that are ready to fight. Even with those fortifications and Treace's new found powerful magic it might not be enough.
Old enemies return, but one may turn out to be a friend. Even so, can they truly be trusted or will they betray the folk of Haven to the self-proclaimed King?
As the losses stack up and with the outcome of the war hanging in the balance, Treace will have to confront his nemesis, Disdane; the only man to have beaten him in single combat. Is Treace up to the task or will he fall, yet again, to the powerful man?

Dropped the ball hard
This book suck all the joy I had for this series agonizingly slows development taking all the interesting concept from the last book and shoving them in the corner to deal with a painfully awkward and stilted romance And cheap power Fantasy that I can't remember asking for So if I have to summarize this book in three words it would be slow boring and unfulfilling.Which is sad because I genuine Like the first book and the second book was tolerable but wow Was the ball dropped on this one

The best so far
The best out of the 3 books so far. The first two I felt were like one run on story without a sufficient build up and climax at the end of each. Very little magic and its potential revealed in either of them.

Who else is tired of a emotionally retarded and hyper-moralistic hero, with his atomic blonde girl friend, with enemies who are all nuthouse escapees and a british voice poorly relaying this train wreck. Piss poor author.

Interesting but not enthralling.
Good but not really great. Would I listen to another if the series continues? Yes, but only if my wish list didn’t provide something I was really excited to get to.
I listened to the first book some time ago, and I couldn’t remember if I hadn’t bought the 2nd because I didn’t like it or because it wasn’t out yet.
I had to hear it again before I continued with the series. Then I did download the 2nd book, and then the 3rd.
The premise of the magic is different from the norm, and there were a few twists that surprised me, but really, how many times can you be captured by the enemy and escape? It just isn’t enough for 5 stars.
I won’t rule out another book by this author, but I’m not waiting on tenterhooks.

The last book is full of fighting, killing and sad endings. I read stories for the good to triumph over evil and the happy ever after. Not just surviving. It’s just personal preference.
