Summary

As the Project enters its final phase, air force majors Carson and Ourecky are dispatched on an urgent mission to intercept and investigate a massive orbiting object suspected of harboring nuclear weapons. Emotionally exhausted, with his marriage teetering on the brink, Ourecky reluctantly accepts the assignment; in return for his sacrifice, he is promised an opportunity to go to MIT to pursue the PhD he has long desired.

As they draw close to the mysterious satellite and prepare to destroy it, they are confronted with a dark secret that they will carry forever and are forced to contemplate their own mortality and the dire prospect of dying in space.

On their return to Earth, they are offered an opportunity that's almost too good to pass up, which entails flying into orbit yet again, except under considerably different circumstances. Ourecky wrestles with his decision, knowing that choosing to fly will almost certainly result in the loss of his marriage, while Carson is finally granted an opportunity to fly in Vietnam. Although he is finally allowed to fulfill his dream of flying in combat, Carson soon discovers that there are some fates worse than death.

Pale Blue is the epic, high-flying conclusion to the Blue Gemini trilogy that will leave you breathless.

So entertaining, couldn't stop listening!

It's rare, I find, to come across a book you just can't put down (stop listening too).

More rare that the narration is just right. This story weaves its way through historical events and the "what if..." dealing with space projects that were real but due to technology moving at pace we're cancelled.

Follow our two intrepid heroes from the start of Blue Gemini to the end.... With twists and turns and a surprise ending in book three it's a very compelling listen.

Enjoy.

Well worth the time investment if you love space.

It is a very long series but well worth the listen. You really would love to be friends with Scott

Satisfying and brilliant

I have really enjoyed this Jenne trilogy and this last volume is incredibly moving and satisfying - completing many of the internal story arcs along with the main one. Well performed and a great and unusual story. Loved it.

Be Careful What You Wish For...

If you have read the two previous volumes then you shouldn't need a review to entice you to the third. All the characters are here and you quickly realize that there is no guarantee that all or indeed any of them will survive. All i can say is that it was well worth investing over sixty hours of my time listening to their exploits.

Really pleasing trilogy to read

Well considered and exciting without a hint of stupidity, which is nice. A real life cold war thriller, with the Russkies just as we knew them. The one exception, I wouldn't even call it a criticism, was one Russian character accent by the narrator that sounded like Peter Sellers doing an Inspector Clouseau accent in Russian. Had me in stitches. It was the only distraction to what was otherwise very gripping, well written, and layered final book in the series. Without the shallow immediacy of the mostly nonsense that is spewing out in this genre at the moment. These books are in another league and well worth paying for. Excellent.

Wow it felt like a real story!

Often a fiction book (especially a conclusion to a series) will be laden with destiny, rapid action climaxes and sickly sweet endings. But this book incorporates the random chance and ‘less exciting’ truth of life to make a climax that feels earned and more real and vivid than could otherwise have been achieved.
The whole series is amazing and I felt by the end that I was listening to history not fiction- like the characters really existed.
Highly recommend! (Start from the beginning though!)

Awesome trilogy

Amazing trilogy, a must read, gripping from the begining of the first book to the last word of the third.

Cracking yarn

Great story, carefully crafted, with enormously vivid characters. Somewhat spoiled for me by the frequent wince-inducingly incorrect use of words - the books would have benefited enormously from the attentions of a good editor - and by the unconvincing whine used for female characters (and the surprisingly unconvincing accent used for the British one). Overall though a great trilogy whose characters I will miss.

Wow great story

I have enjoyed the journey that Ourecky and Carson have endured. What a trilogy of books they have been!

This last book kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed the storyline the characters and how it all panned out. What a rollercoaster!

Very emotional which shows how well the author has created some really great rich characters.

Well worth a read but start at the beginning.
