Midnight Gulch used to be a magical place, a town where people could sing up thunderstorms and dance up sunflowers. But that was long ago, before a curse drove the magic away. Twelve-year-old Felicity knows all about things like that; her nomadic mother is cursed with a wandering heart. But when she arrives in Midnight Gulch, Felicity thinks her luck's about to change. A "word collector", Felicity sees words everywhere - shining above strangers, tucked into church eaves, and tangled up her dog's floppy ears - but Midnight Gulch is the first place she's ever seen the word "home".

Mum's away. Dad's in charge. There's no milk. So Dad saves the day by going to buy some. Really, that's all that happens. Very boring. Yawn. There are absolutely none of the following inside: globby green aliens! Intergalactic police! Pirates! And most definitely not a time-travelling hot-air balloon piloted by the brilliant Professor Steg.

The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. Highly recommended
A great story for the whole family. We listened to it as we drove from Winnipeg to southern Ontario. Little did we know that we would travel through many of the same cities (Duluth, Sault Ste. Marie) that Paddle to the Sea travelled through. This made listening to the book very exciting for the kids (and mom & dad). The narration is excellent and the music really puts you in the story. Of all the kid's audio books I've purchased this has to be the best and is the one the kids want to listen to over and over. Highly recommend it especially for family driving trips.

Recommend the actual book instead
We live in Michigan and this book resonated with how close to home it takes paddle. The story itself is wonderful but I recommend buying the actual book to listen WITH the book. It took a little bit for my kids (6 and 8) to be able to really visualize the story and paddle. The physical book can help with that. I bought another book from the author as well because I love how it also helps kids learn about geography thru the story.
