I really enjoyed learning more about the roots of the Tudor Dynasty, Owen Tudor. I loved the romance between Owen, a royal courtier and Queen Catherine of Valois. This is the second of Tony Riches books that I have recently listened to, the first being Mary Tudor, which I loved. The books are excellently researched and very well written, and this was a beautiful story that was hard to put down it was so good! The narrator I thought was excellent, he kept my attention the whole of the way through. I'm looking forward to the next book, Jasper, because I love this piece of history, the way that Jasper Tudor protected and was a father figure to young Henry VII, while his Mother Margaret Beaufort was doing everything in her power to get Henry back in the line of succession during The Wars of the Roses. I highly recommend the series The White Queen if you like this piece of history too. 🤍 👑 📚

Great story but such an appalling pronunciation of the Welsh language.
Surely its possible to consult a Welsh speaker for help with this.
You do well with French and Latin so why this discrimination?

Would you try another book written by Tony Riches or narrated by Ian Fisher?

Probably not ... the bare bones of the plot are historical and interesting, but the characterization wasn't entirely psychologically convincing. The characters were rather flat and therefore did not quite engage my emotions.

What could Tony Riches have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The characters needed to be rounder for my taste.

What about Ian Fisher’s performance did you like?

Pleasant to listen to his voice and there was also variety so that it was possible to distinguish the characters.

Did Owen inspire you to do anything?

Might be nice to do some historical reading to get a sense of which plot points are historical and which are conjecture,

If you are interested in learning about the beginnings of the Tudor dynasty, this novel gives a sense of what might have happened.
