I've fancied experiencing what it's like to be hypnotized for some time, not least because my husband has occasionally used it in his clinical practice. He tells me that he wouldn't be able to hypnotize me as, apparently, it doesn't work with someone you know well. So I was intrigued by the Audible podcast interview with the guy who makes these recordings. I listened to his illustration of how he might help people who are afraid of flying, but I wasn't put into a hypnotic trance by the recording, but maybe that was because I'm not afraid of flying. Like most people, there's a situation that makes me feel uncomfortable, so I downloaded Fears & Phobias recording to see if I could be put into a trance. It's all very relaxing, but I never felt that I was near being hypnotized. I think I was being too analytical about the therapist's technique and found myself trying to place his accent. I found the music overlaying his voice distracting and irritating, which didn't help. I hope that others will find the recording helpful and be more able to have unquestioning trust in the therapist?an essential ingredient in the success of this kind of treatment.
