It was the perfect trip, until it ended in murder…

I stand on the balcony with my gorgeous husband, Reuben, by my side. My family have returned to this beautiful French hotel to celebrate my mother’s seventieth birthday. The sun is shining and everything seems perfect. It’s paradise but I feel like I’m trapped…

Because twenty years ago someone was killed in the glittering swimming pool.

I watch as my children run around excitedly, my parents sip cocktails, and my brother throws his head back as he laughs. But a shiver runs down my spine because I know what really happened all those years ago.

I have to smile and lie to my family because of the secrets I’m keeping. Then I receive a text message, and the words turn my heart to ice:

You should never have come back here…

I can’t sleep and I’m constantly looking over my shoulder. And then one night as Reuben and I stroll in the hotel grounds, I see a woman’s lifeless body in the pool. My mouth opens in a silent scream. It’s happening all over again.

Are my precious family now in danger too?

From the number one bestselling author Daniel Hurst, I Shouldn’t Have Come Here is an absolutely addictive psychological thriller that will have you questioning everything until you reach the final, jaw-dropping twist. Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, T M Logan and Lisa Jewell.

Very bland and all came together far to conveniently. Nice easy summer listen but nothing earth shattering.

Meh

I truly believe these dreadful books are being churned out by AI. The speed at which Daniel Hurst is producing this low grade rubbish leads me to assume he is having help from a boring droid. Execrable in every sense.
The narration especially the male narration is truly appalling. I have tried a number of his books from Audible and my library and I despair how this tripe gets past a proof reader.

Surprisingly bad

This was poor fare on various levels: the writing needed better editing to get rid of word repetition and cliches, the characters had little depth or interest beyond the immediate situations, and although the plotting was acrobatic, it returned us to a conclusion that could have been foreseen easily in the opening pages. It was only in hope of being proved wrong that I kept listening, so I was very irritated to have stuck with it. I am sure previous titles by this author were better written, as I had been pleased to see this was available - but I am not inclined to try again. The actors were both very good and did their best with shoddy material.

Sloppy writing, tedious characters

I really like Daniel Hurst writing but this is bland. The premise is great. No spoilers, but the whole ‘event’ was ridiculous and preventable. Annoying dialogue between brother and sister regarding the past event. I may finish at some point or skip to the end.

Waste of time

I found this to be very disappointing, especially after all the hype.
It was predictable, a little far fetched, and I couldn't really engage with the characters at all.
There wasn't much that was relatable to real life, and this story had me persevering rather than enjoying.

The narrator wasn't the best either.
Her tone of voice often wasn't in line with the story unfolding.
