Where murder is concerned, fiction cannot compete with real life.
The Peverell Press is losing money. The two-hundred-year-old independent publisher is still housed in its dramatic mock-Venetian palace on the Thames, but its ruthless new director, Gerard Etienne, wants to move to cheaper offices as part of his plan to save the company. Before he can push through any ambitious changes, though, he is found murdered, his body bizarrely desecrated.
Commander Adam Dalgliesh soon finds that the director had a host of dangerous enemies: a discarded mistress, a neglected and humiliated author, rebellious colleagues, disgruntled staff. But did any of them hate Gerard enough to kill him?
What made the experience of listening to Original Sin the most enjoyable?
I like reading P D James' books but I thoroughly enjoyed the narration. All the voices were soo clever. Wonderful! The story was excellent and the narrator voiced all the characters. What did you like best about this story?
The fact that I couldn't wait for the reveal but also didn't want it to end. What does Daniel Weyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
His narration was excellent - more of him please. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wanted to but it was lengthy. This is not a complaint. I like to get my money's worth!Any additional comments?
Lots of characters makes a book more interesting and impossible to guess who the perpetrator was.P D James at her best.

The narrator's voice is lovely and he does male and female voices equally well.
good, long read, sometimes a bit wordy though

Exceptional narrator, one of those where you almost forget that the book is being read at all.
Excellent story, beautifully narrated

Whilst the story was enjoyable, the writung beautiful and of course the tying up well executed, I felt it too long winded, the intense focus on tiny details, the gentle ponderings of each character was given too much weight.
The story itself was interesting and the mystery was intriguing but I found the majority of characters to lack real emotion, they came across as detached and of an era more fitting to Victorian times, I didn't engage with any of them and to my mind I like to make a connection and invest some emotion with those who make the story play out.
I'm afraid I found the characters unbelievable, and the cold reflections they trended towards only enhanced their lack of emotion towards the dead, this seemed at odds to me, especially when presonal convictions and emotions of bereavement were a strong theme and motivation.
I may try other PDJames novels but I think I'll research before I do.
Great story but the characterisation was cold.
