About this listen

Set across two weeks in 2018 and 2023, Orange is the story of a situationship between two young men, Daniel and Jago, who, at 16, become unlikely friends and then lovers in their tiny Cornish fishing village.

Five years later, Daniel has moved away to London and Jago is coming to visit for a few days. Despite being in each other's lives all this time, they have never solidified their relationship, and this is only Jago's second visit to the city.

Daniel knows this trip is significant–are they finally ready to commit, or has their moment passed?

Having lived in both Cornwall and London I was intrigued by the story but was immediately drawn in by both main characters - their emotional complexity and coming of age challenges were extremely relatable for me. Will Watt’s narration is as always absolutely spot on. Gentle, funny, and pitched absolutely right to bring the gorgeous writing to life. Even with all the complicated Cornish names and dialect. It will make you laugh and cry and want to shout ‘don’t do it!’ at one point… I am both heart broken and uplifted all at once. A truly beautiful piece of writing. Highly recommend.

Quietly beautiful

Enjoyed this book. The characters are well crafted and relatable. The narrative vividly paints the complex relation between Daniel and Jack. And also the relationship between Daniel and his parents and this naturally lends the history to the current circumstance. I like the narrative and descriptions in general but find the over use of particular words jarring - syrupy, buttery, performative etc.

Great story of first love
